I am seeing more 4th gens being driven in the winter now. I just say to them, keep doing it. Makes mine worth more money. As far as the window motors go, I have figured an easy way to do it. Took me 30 minutes on the first one. Probably could do the next one quicker if I ever have to. Buy the motor only at Advance, they come with a lifetime warranty. They only cost 40 bucks. Also the reason they go bad is because GM only sends about 10 volts to the drivers side switch then splits that voltage to the passenger side switch. When you run both at once you are splitting voltage and running a 12 volt motor on 5-6 volts causing them to burn up. Don't run both at once.

Somewhere on LS1tech there is a post on how to install window motor. It even has detailed pics. I just search one of the forums and came across it. It helps a bunch.

Depends on who is driving it in the winter.

There isn't much that can rust on a 4th-gen versus a 3rd or 2nd-gen anyway.

I see a second gen and a fourth gen every time I walk inthe garage

I'm late to get in on the 4th gen. My wife wanted an inexpensive father son project and looking around, the 4th gens are the best bang for the buck in the area now. So; we are doing a mild restoration on a woman owned 96 SS with 150k on the odometer and nothing done other than service and tires. It's now got a rebuilt on he stock motor, clutch, new Bilsteins, steering and suspension replacements, tires, and cool blue lights(we couldn't resist! lol) and we just did some touch up on the paint and added stripes ourselves. Next to replace that window regulator and dash! lol
We've got about $6500 total into it. Yeah by the time it's done we coulda bought a better example but the time and learning experience for the boy will be invaluable.
Now I'm wanting a new vert when they come out! lol

It just is, how it is

Right now everybody wants a 5th gen, so nobody gives a crap about the 4th gen. So it's not like you can't find them, you just need to realize that the 4th gens are 7 to 16 years old, they have a lot of miles on them and are used up.

They are kind of like that beautiful girl that someone starts going out with but after a while she becomes used, same thing with the 4th gens. She's no longer going to be fresh and clean, same with the 4th gens.

Those of us who own and care about our 4th gens won't be selling them for a long time.

Unfortunately, I don't think they're going to add T-Tops as an option. It's a pretty out-dated technology with the only thing close to it being the Corvette's moonroof (I think that's what they're calling it).
And considering the 5th gen's borroy body lines from the 1st gen, it's pretty unlikely we'll see anything close to a t-top without having to re-work the structure of the car. Convertible's are gonna be pretty cool though...

Yeh t-tops ain't coming back. It's not that it's outdated, but what's the reason to have it when you can just buy the convertible version. GM realized that it was stupid. Honestly, it's the same dame thing. And besides the customers who wanted t-tops there were some that didn't care about it and wished that they just had a sunroof instead. So, GM is catering to these customers nowadays, too.

I do agree that the 3rd gens are considered "white trash" and dont commend much respect among the masses but damn I love it!

I agree about the 4th gens, low respect level, mostly due to the fact that it's known as the quintessential "white trash" cars. However yours looks sweet, I like it even better than the new Camaro in that pic!

I had an '88 Firebird years ago, I bought it for $300. Beat to hell, literally falling apart, I drove it countless miles for over a year, that thing leaked so much oil it literally ran without ANY, and it NEVER died on me, just ran and ran.

I've always loved the idea of a super cheap, dependable, V8 muscle car, used to be the Fox Body I lusted over in that regard, now, although I never really loved the styling too much, I'm kind of thinking of getting a 4th gen LS1. However, I'd be looking to spend $5-$7K, don't care about the appearance as much I do the running order. In that price range, they're gonna be falling apart, so unfortunately I don't think I'm gonna wanna go through with my search.

P.S, some of these 4th gens you guys are posting look ridiculous, VERY nice.

BTW, I gotta say, I hate T-Tops and am SO glad they aren't on the new Camaro. Enthusiasts will obviously tend to them, but the masses see them as an ancient trend, i.e a mullet drop top . Definitely helps the 5th Gen that it did away with them.

Uh... I wouldn't say that they are white trash, it's just that nowadays people use them as beaters and they do take a beating, but people don't really don't tend to fix them up. I actually bought mine off a dealer but it was a 1 owner car in really good condition and I plan on throwing a lot of money into her over time.
