My house is built into the side of a hill, the driveway is sloped down hill and away from the house. On the rare occasion it isn't in the garage I park it with the wheels turned upslope so that it doesn't roll even without the brake or being in gear, then set the brake and put it in 1st or reverse.

Reverse with no parking brake.
Habit from my C6 Corvette.
The Vette door wouldn't unlock automatically and an error message would read on the dic if you didn't put it into reverse when you pushed the stop part of the ignition button.
I don't think the Camaro has the same electronics but it became habit!

I just went out to the garage and put the car into Reverse. I used to put in first, Learn something everyday

And.. Just a few of my cents.. If you do NOT use the E-brake regularly it could start jamming and getting stuck in engaged setting.. Mosty applies to older cars..and/or Automatic cars where previous owners never used E-brake .. ever.. hehe..

So using E-brake is good..

Thanks,

reverse is usually the lowest gear.

regardless, reverse with the parking brake on is the better method

Turn the steering wheel toward the curb if the car is facing downhill. The front part of the front tire should be turned into the curb.
Step 4
Turn the wheel away from the curb if the car is facing uphill. The back of the front tire should be turned into the curb.
Step 5
Put the car in park. For manual transmissions, leave the car in gear.
Step 6
Set the parking brake.
Step 7
Lift your foot off the brake. If the car slips, park again closer to the curb and reset the wheels against the curb.
good advice

The tricky part to remember is the wheel direction.

Uphill w/curb, wheels left, w/o curb wheels right, downhill wheels right.

This is all btw assuming you are smart enough to park on the right side of the road, if not, you have bigger problems...

Don't quote me on wheel directions, I'm not a driving instruction.

But I DO know that reverse being a low gear has nothing to do with anything.

When you park uphill you put it in 1st because in 1st gear the car just isn't going to roll backwards (unless something fails, which is why you use the handbrake) and when parking downhill you put it in R because, again, it isn't going to roll forward unless something fails.
thats with the parking brake engaged right? cus I can assure you that cars can still roll if the brake is not applied and the vehicle is just left in gear. ask me how I know lol

and to adjust the parking brake (cus most cars today, the parking brake is just that, a parking brake and is rarely strong enough to be used as an emergency brake), you can normally drive backwards at about 10-20 mph to reset the brake.

I haven't parked anywhere that isn't flat yet. I always just leave it in neutral with p-brake. When I park on a hill, I will use 1st/p-brake for uphill and R/pbrake for downhill, but haven't run into that yet.

Always in gear, 1st or reverse, and always with the break on. Double protection from rolling.

I learned something new. I've always parked my manual transmissions in 1st gear w/ parking brake.

Facing down a hill brake and reverse, facing up 1st and brake. Opposite the grade basically.
