I have already told the dealer do not put the front plate on my cgm 2ss/rs when she get del. I live in TX and I'm sure if I will need a plate but I will not have one on at all...

I went ahead and tried this on my car. Amazing idea. I had zip ties before but this method secures the plate much better.

Went to Home Depot in the morning and got the supplies for a whopping $5.00 (Washers, Toggle Bolts and Electrical tape)

I don't think the airflow is an issue.

I like the idea of not punching any holes in a perfect front end, the only question here is have you had any over heating problems by covering part of the lower grill area...

Here is an idea that allows you to have your plate when you want it and and when you don't. Just tell the officer that you just wash and waxed your car and forgot to put it back up. LOL It works.

I went with the zip ties first, and they worked perfectly until I decided to have my car detailed when it got nice out. Despite warning the detailer not to mess with the front plate, and explaining how I had weaved the zip ties through the grill, when I came to pick up the car the plate was hanging off because he pulled on it and yanked the zip ties through the vertical teeth of the grill. Busted three of them, and the three on top as well. They only broke on one end, so unless you look you can't tell they're busted, but I can't use them to secure the plate anymore. Jerk detailer just looked at me when I explained he busted my front grill - no more business for him!

Thanks for this DIY, I'm hopeful I can use this since I haven't found a glue that will rebond the grill teeth. For everyone out there, WARN YOUR DETAILER TO BE CAREFUL ABOUT YOUR PLATE, OR JUST REMOVE IT BEFORE YOU GIVE IT TO THEM!

you could buy the remote controled unit and hit the key-fob to extend the plate when necessary. I venture to guess it could also be programed into the home-link system????? I may try this mod soon, and will report back.
