Maybe someone pointed this out and I just missed it. But even if taking the bumper off gained HP, how many people want to drive around looking like they just rear-ended someone?

OMG WTF BBQ!!!! I did this and put a NOS(sound it out like thye do on the The Fast and The Furious) sticker on my back window and I SWEAR I felt the diffrence!!!! On the dyno at Butt & Sound Performance I gained 26.12489765 HP and I could feel every bit of it!!! I bet if I take the plastic cover off the shark fin on top, I could get an extra .10th in the 1/4 mile since it will help the wind resistance!

Without getting into a HUGE arguement over this. This very thing was brought up by a guy that removed his. It was in one of the Halltech threads. I didn't notice it was even there till he pointed it out. It does block some airflow that would otherwise go unobstructed into the filter area. How much it improves IAT's is unknown but more fresh air has gotta be better than less, especially if it's FREE. The problem is, getting to the damn thing. You can get to it without taking the bumper off but it aint easy. I've yet to remove mine since I haven't had the time but will in the near future.

If you still have your bumper off, can you take another pic with the black piece removed?

Man, you guys are brutal.I dont think the op needs to be flamed for trying to help out. This could give you a little more air flow. Obviously gm put this thing there because there is a decent amount of air to be pulled from this location, so it only stands to reason that if it is now blocking the new intake from recieving the max amount of air, take it off. It may not give you but 0.002694847447557 hp , but that is more than you had before. Just my opinion.

That deflector just might have a useful purpose even with a CAI if it in fact is there to deflect water, bugs, debris etc. from the air stream leading to the air box.

I think you are right about it being a deflector.I am removing my bumper soon to install my heritage grille and will leave it alone to be on the safe side.I don't understand why some people are attacking the OP for saying he removed his and felt a difference,he was only trying to inform others about the possibility of increasing power and I appreciate that

Ok, now I understand what he was trying to say. The problem is he did a very poor job of explaining what the hell he was talking about. Not that I know, good job.

Don't think I would take another pic if I was him...not after the way he was blasted. Better yet, I would take a pic and share it with you and a few others that treated me with decency via PM. I mean there's just no call for this people. Geez. He was not making outlandish claims, bragging or anything like that. He was trying to help his fellow enthusiasts with some information that some or most might not know or realize about the car.

Whatever...
