Did the deed and the difference is incredible
After being totally sick of the AFM and automatic, I traded my two month old SS with 1,000 miles back in for the LS3, 6 speed manual. As I pulled away from the dealer, I was totally amazed at the difference! I have a C6 Vette, LS2 manual with headers and B&B exhaust and this Camaro is powerful, stock. The L99 in the automatic is so quiet and the AFM kicking in and out just turned me off so much I couldn't stand to drive the car. If I had only known the difference, I would have never bought the automatic.
I would recommend to anyone debating on which transmission to go with to drive BOTH and decide from the comparison. After being disappointed with the L99, I am excited about firing up the LS3!!!! Last edited by c6vettepilot; 05-29-2010 at 07:57 PM. |

Agree with ya pilot, the car just wouldn't be the same with the stick.
Congrats |

There must have been something wrong with your auto Camaro- I can never tell when mine goes in and out of AFM. Have fun in those traffic jams and have you heard- you can get better times with the auto in the 1/4 mile.
Also, you didn't tell us what the trade down cost you. |

I have been driving a stick for many years and never had a problem with a stick in traffic. So sick of people crying about my leg hurts. OMG be a man about it. I love my ls3 and wouldn't change it for anything else.

I'll be 55 soon, and two years ago broke my left hip bone (dumb bicycle accident). I still got the manual trans, because I wanted the fun of shifting the Camaro. I'm not going road or drag racing, so times don't matter. To each his own, but for me, this is a fun, sporty car that just feels right rowing through those gears!

I had my L99 tuned and I have no AFM. I love it. Did you consider having your L99 tuned?
Glad you are happy with your car! You might look into getting the skip shift eliminator. Every car has it's quirks, but fortunately, there are after-market fixes for AFM and skip shift. |

I think he wants to keep his warranty, so no you can't get it tuned out.

Between my 4th gen and now 5th, I've been driving a stick SS for a decade- in Chicago burbs/highways. No problem, no leg pain. You just get used to it and it comes completely natural.

Congrats!! I'm sure you'll love it. Once you get a feel for it and it gets broken in, the car is an absolute blast to drive. I find excuses to drive mine and I absolutely love rowing through the gears while driving.

Traffic jams aren't that bad to drive stick in
And anyone who claims they ran a fast time in the 1/4 mile with the automatic car is a liar, ur auto tranny ran the fast time, u just sat there and enjoyed the ride... Lazy.
