Rear Diff fluid change... More than 1qt?

If someone used the Mobile 1 LS 75W-90 gear oil for the rear diff on an SS, did you have to put in more than 1qt?

This stuff already includes the necessary friction modifier and I am not sure if I need to get more than 1qt of it or not.

1 quart is more then enough. The way it's designed you won't be able to get a full quart in anyways.

Ok good to know. I got the change done but the thing still makes the odd groaning noises (more noticable in reverse). I did take it to a parking lot and did about 10 tight circles in each direction as well.

It can't hurt to add the GM friction modifier to the Mobil 1. That is what I did, and I have no noises.

Do figure 8's, not circles. Circles seem to just not work as well as figure 8's do.

Tried figure 8s but did not appear to change anything. Next step I guess is try draining it again and use the friction modifier. Seems odd I should need that if the mobile 1 already includes it but worth a shot I guess.

OK, I drained some of the fluid, added in a full charge of the friction modifier and then topped off the fluid and now I do not seem to have any more of the groaning. It seems that even though the mobile 1 LS fluid has the friction modifier in it, you still should add a tube of it to the mix anyway.

I changed mine at 2500 miles using Mobil1 LS 75W-90 plus the GM friction modifier. I read some mixed reviews about using the Mobil1 gear oil by itself. Currently at 3500 miles and haven't heard any noise out of the rear end.

the total fill capacity is 1.1qt,, so unless you leave it drain all day, even then you probly will have .1qt stuck up by the pinion bearings,, so 1 qt is usually what it takes to fill after a drain.
