Why can't my wife drive my Camaro?
I want my wife to drive our Camaro (it's a 6 speed standard), but the few times she's tried, she stalled it numerous times.
She's driven standards before but just can't seem to get the feel for the Camaro... She's almost at the point where she won't try drving it again. I'd appreciate any tips or advice on how to teach her properly... |

She's probably a little intimidated, I would have her keep practicing, but I am curious is it imperative that she drive the car?
The reason I ask is that when people have difficulties like this and are honest about wanting to stop trying and are forced to continue, well the outcome is not always pretty. Good luck. |

The clutch in a camaro is very forgiving. Let her take the car by herself maybe you are freaking her out.

it's fate, the car is telling you something, you would be wise to listen to your Camaro!

I find the Clutch og GM cars to be quite easy to use. I know someone who learned in a day after she bought hers having never driven a stick. You must freak your wife out cause anyone can drive these cars.

I own a 2008 Nismo and the clutch is one of the more difficult to initially get used. I actually 'over rev' when swtiching from driving the Camaro to the Nismo. I find the Camaro clutch to be one of the easiest I have ever used.

If she has no choice but to get around town in it for a day, she'll pick it up quick.

She knows if she messes it up you'll have a fit.
Or at least that's the first thing that came to mind.

Mine did the same thing. Said she's intimidated by the power/sound but never had an issue with other cars and motorcycles. I stopped trying and she stopped asking. I even said she could burn up the clutch trying and then I would just upgrade it. Wasn't interested.

Thanks for all the feedback.
I tried sending her out by herself in the car, but she's afraid of getting stranded somewhere... I guess we'll keep trying... Just not sure how long. Is there much chance of her doing any damage to the car if she stalls it a lot? How quickly can a clutch burn out? |

I will be honest, I have driven manuals for years and I have stalled my M6 more than any other car since learning to drive one at age 12 after having it now for just over a month, with the engage point on the clutch being so high it is still hard for me to get used to, I am still playing with the seat location so that I can get it in the perfect spot for the clutch. Plus with the factory exhaust on it (it is not an SS) it is very quiet at the start and makes it hard to hear the engine RPMs when going from a dead stop (maybe I am the only one who does this based?) So for someone who is only a casual driver of the vehicle I can see why it is somewhat intimidating to drive.
