Removing Stickshift Knob

Does anybody know how to remove the knob from the stickshift? I thought there would be a small allen screw once I removed that little square off the back of the knob, but nope.

Once you undo the 4 screws that hold down the shifter boot, you pull up on the shifter knob. You may have to twist a little while pulling up. There is no warning when it's actully going to pop off. Like the others said, be careful not to hit yourself in the face.

So I have to remove the trim around the stickshift to access the four screws, right?

Do a search for the camaro hurst shifter install video. you'll see what's involved. I watched it a couple of times and then installed my Hurst short throw. Wasn't that difficult, just glad I didn't give myself a fat lip when pulling the stock shifter knob off

ok....I think my question may be a bit too broad. What I want to remove is just the black knob on the stickshift.....not the entire stickshift.

The knob is attached to the boot with a zip tie, so you'll need to pop up the trim around the shifter, too. You should be able to get it without tools. You might need to just get it started with a panel trim tool or carefully with a flat head screwdriver.

When you do get to the point where you pull the knob off, give it a tiny twist back and forth as you pull up. Don't twist it much.

Because the knob is held on the leather boot with a zip tie, you still need to take the 4 screws out that hold the boot down and pop off the knob off the shifter. Invert the boot to get to the zip tie and clip it and then the knob will seperate from the boot.

Watch 2 places in the video to see what we're talking about, and you'll see how to get the knob off.

To remove the knob assembly watch the beginning of the video up to 1:05.
To see removing the knob from the boot, starts at 5:25 to 5:32

Unscrew the 4 screws and pull the boot up like your taking off a kids shirt... the boot comes up over the knob. Wrap your hand around the boot and ball and YANK.

Like jmat said, dont punch yourself in the mouth! It should pop right off!

Oh yeah. I forgot about those screws. I was picturing the boot attached to the trim for some reason. So many cars...ugh.
