I doubt there will be a Z28 since it is the first time the car is re-released they want to make sure it will do well instead of investing in something that might not sell. Another reason they wouldnt make a convertible the first year just more money in development.

As for SS it will probably be a V8, but again i doubt seeing a V8 in the base now that an SS is mentioned. Just like the late 4th gens what could you get a v8 in??? No base v8's. Just 350's in the ss or z28's. V6 will be the base and V8 will be the SS. THATS IT FOR THE FIRST YEAR.

The interior likely contains nearly all the final shapes but not the final materials. It happens all the time with engineering prototypes. Form follows function. It just so happens that on the Camaro, the general form was done for the concept but the functionality wasn't all there, and the materials were too expensive. the prototypes have working forms that don't have much attention to paid to aestetics and were built as cheaply as possible. the final stage, production, puts the two together. You get a nice looking car that is fully functional. That goes for the interior and exterior

I know this is more than you were asking for, but I'm sure that there are others out there who haven't really thought about this stuff before.

At '67 model release the SS350 was 295HP, at the '67 mid year release the Z/28 was 302/290HP, also at mid year while the SS350 was still available they added three SS396 engines at 325HP/350HP/375HP, they would remain available for the remainder of the first gen. The big difference engine wise was the SS350 had lower compression with hydraulic lifters and a 5500RPM redline, the Z/28 was 11 to 1 compression with solid lifters and a 6500 RPM redline (though they would easily go beyond that with the solid lifters). There were a lot of other differences between the SS and Z/28 besides engines, but that can be for another day. They were both nice with the SS being a 1320 screamer and the Z/28 being more of a road race all around performance car. I have to say Ed said some exciting things about the new Camaro, I do hope that a Z/28 is still coming.

When we talk about the "base" being an SS...the "base" we're referring to is the base V8. We don't mean the actual base model Camaro. The top level V8 which may be the SS or Z28 probably won't come out right at release, but months later. But in reference to the 4th gens...the Z28 was the "base" V8. And though the SS didn't have a larger displacement engine, it was still considered the top level V8 (even though it wasn't rated for much more horsepower)...Aside from saying the new Camaro's base V8 will be the SS for sure...I agree. We probably will only see 1 V6 and 1 V8 the first year...hopefully not...but probably, whether it's the Z28 or the SS

He said the base and the SS. Then he says v6. He didn't say the base camaro would be the v6. The way he worded it implies that the base v8 and SS v8 will be aside from the v6.

I'm under the impression the base v8 might not be the z28 but the SS won't be base v8 model.

just mho

Ok, understandable...but at the same time...wouldn't you call the general lowest trim level for any car it's "base"? And I think that most of us would naturally think of the base model Camaro being a V6. When he was talking about the V6, he was just emphasizing that it's power and fuel efficiency would be better than we all expect. That was my take...

I hear what you're sayin' and I was thinking along similar lines... but after considering the circumstances and timing... I figure he's gotta be talking about the offerings for the 1st model year. It only makes sense...
If the "Top Dawg" Camaro isn't coming until the 2nd model year (?), then I think it's safe to conclude that the SS will be the V8 Camaro when it is released.

Best regardSS,

Elie
