K&N typhoon noise?
I have installed a K&N typhoon on my camaro ss l99 and every thing was good. I then got into a minor wreck where they had to replace my whole bumper assembly, cooler, and the rediator was pushed out of its bracket (they just placed it back in the brackets). When I got it back from the shop I was paying more attention than normal to every sound my car made. I turned my car on and heard nothing so I shut it off and that is when it happened.
I turned the car on and off again and heard it over and over again. The sound was a 'woosh' of air coming out of the filter of the CAI. I never heard this before and it is loud enough to be heard from inside the car. I took my car to a chevy dealership and they said it just my set-up that is making the noise. All I have is the CAI, shorty headers, and a corsa catback. The only thing I can think of is my throttle body might not be closing all the way; is it suppose to? Do others with this CAI have this noise? Thank you for your responses in advance. |

What you're hearing is totally normal. I installed my mods several months back (in my sig). My car has never been wrecked and only gets driven on weekends, but EVERY time I start mine up or give it some throttle while driving, I hear the "whoosh" of air getting sucked INTO the intake.

Thanks for the reply , but this is air coming OUT of the intake. I should clarify it blows out when shutting the car off.
I placed a piece of paper and it blows the paper off. When I drive or throttle the engine it sucks the paper in, which is normal and I could hear that sucking in originally too. Last edited by krusher; 09-06-2012 at 10:16 AM. Reason: clarifying statement |

The only time it blows out is when shutting off the car otherwise it is always sucking air in. I just thought this was unusual that anything goes OUT the intake filter.

I do not have that intake, or even a Camaro, but when I shut my car off my CAI makes the same woosh noise. I've looked into it and other people with CAI's say the same thing, think its fairly normal.
Edit: here's an example |

All completely normal. I've had CAI's on a lot of vehicles. They all do this when you shut them off.

Mine does that also, just a normal sound of the air pressure kicking back from the intake. My roots super charged stang I had did it bigtime with all the pressure kicking out. Just enjoy your new found sounds..and the Camaro..
