I think this mirror uses the Low Speed GMLAN serial data for auto-dimming. allowing it to compensate for the amount of light inside the vehicle like the display radio or Driver Information Center Display

If it did this I would assume it would need to have a light sensor somewhere near the mirror but not in the mirror. My current mirror only dims itself at night when there is light glaring right into it so I'm assuming the 2013 mirror will work the same way.

I ordered one so I report back on what happens when I plug it in. I'm expecting the OnStar stuff wont work but I'm hoping the dimming bit still works.

I'm waiting for mine also. The old mirrors do not have the auto-dim function in the buttons, the new ones have it. The light is intense in the day , and tenuous in the night.
my theory is that use the Ambient Light Sensor

Well I got the mirror yesterday and was able to install it. The short version is it doesn't work when you plug it in on my 2010. The longer version is below.

The Good:
1) It looks much better than the large plastic frame stock mirror
2) It blocks a lot less of the windshield than the stock mirror
3) The mount and wire harness plug are identical to the old mirror so it fits well
4) It has all of the same functions as old mirror (the eye for the dimmer and indicator lights are behind the mirror glass which gives it a much sleeker appearance)

The Bad:
1) The windshield on the 2010 has a blacked out area behind the mirror and some sort of box or antenna mounted behind it. With the smaller 2013 mirror this is more visible than before. The 2013 windshield has a cleaner appearance behind the mirror.
2) It doesn't work. I plugged it in, turned the car on, and then nothing. The buttons on the mirror don't respond and the mirror will not dim if you shine a light on it (to simulate a cars headlights from behind).

I would have probably been OK if the mirror would have at least dimmed; I don't really use the other functions on the mirror so I wouldn't miss them. I would guess if you can figure out which wires are power and ground you can re-wire it so it will at least dim.

Does anybody know which pins on the 2013 mirror plug are power and ground? If somebody can tell me I'll try to test the dimming functionality.

I'm not sure what the part number is. There may be one on the box it came in, but I'm not sure.
