Hood bending when washing it by hand

Hello,

is it normal when washing the hood by hand (you know.. wearing a glove using water and soap.....) you feel the central part of the hood bending a bit due to the pressure you exercise? Then it comes back to normal..

Before the last washing, it had never happened to me...so I was wondering if that was normal or if I exercised too much pressure this time.

Thank you and sorry for the fussy question..

Marco

It might be that that caused the light bending...in fact last time I used water warmer than usual......Thank you USAF!

You're applying way too much pressure. People don't realize how little agitation is required to remove dirt off a car when soap is used. Granted, you might have to lightly apply pressure with your fingertips to remove spots of pollen or something, but if you're still having trouble removing large areas of dirt with little to no pressure, then washing won't get rid of it and that's when you know it's time to claybar.

You're probably scratching your paint applying that much pressure.

Agreed. Too much pressure... pretty much you want to let the soap do most of the work, if you find yourself 'scrubbing' to remove things then its probably best to finish the wash up and move into claying next.

The hoods on the camaro do seem to have some 'soft' spots (noticed mostly when polishing with a machine as you apply downward pressure) but its nothing compared to the roofs of most trucks!! Those that have polished on the roof of a GM truck in the past 10 years and heard the "KA-THUNK" of panels popping in and out know what I mean.

Ok, I will be more delicate.

If I recall well, the soft point was on the sides of the central line where the hump is(for those who have factory stripes, at the centre of them).

I don't think I caused any damage though, I felt it bending twice on just one washing. I had a very close look at it and it is excatly like before both in terms of appearance and in terms of opening/closing movement and alignment once it is closed.

Thank you all for your help as usual

Marco

I agreed with everyone on the part where you might be applying too much pressure on the hood area. Most companies are trying to save weight for the fuel saving's on the car's. This has been going on for over 30 year's and the practice is industry wide.

LOL!!! I think you had your answer before you posted!!

Sex on the hood would be fun but I don't think it would be worth the chance at damage, How bout just a blanket in front of the car with the halos on??
