I installed mine to come on with the door/dome lights. I don't need them on while I'm driving, I should be looking at the road, not my cool footwells.

I did the 3 way switch on my lights too.
You open the door or turn on the dome lights, and they come on..... once you are in the car with the doors closed... if you want them on without the obnoxious dome light shining in your face, all i have to do is flip the switch to the right, it changes the power source, and they are on until i get tired of it. not a problem while driving at all. and I have been stopped by cops before, he did not care at all. He did ask about it being blue, I told him it was supposed to match the greenish aqua color on the sides of the doors, but was a little off. He was cool with that.

Can you post a picture of your switch? I'm trying to find an attractive 3 way switch.

I have my switch hidden so that you cant see it.
if you reach under the dash, directly below the steering wheel, that is the area that I put my switch. for wiring, I tapped into the loom above the gas pedal and the ABL wire by the driver side mirror, so I wanted to run the shortest amount of wires I could and just left the switch hidden.

Mine was originally wired to the dome light but like you I did not like it so I wired them to a switch. It reall is not that difficult. Cut a hole in the piece of trip around the center console. (basically to the left of your shifter). I have the aux guage pack so I wired the power to the purple wire in the aux pack plug and the lights come on with the switch and not the door.

I did my footwells and all my lights a lil different from most people. I have all my LEDs wired up to the same control box, but I put a switch panel in the power wire between the control box and the LEDs so I can turn them all on/off individually. Then I have a 3-way switch for the power to the control box, one side runs constant power and the other runs into the engine bay and takes power from the headlights, so when I unlock the car at night all my lights come on with the locator lights. I was going to put in a dimmer switch only for the footwells, but they don't bother me being on all the time. Only possible issue I've had is with my tinted windows and the footwells on I can't see out the windows too well sometimes(just get the reflection of the lights inside) but I have my windows down 99% of the time, and if I don't have the windows down I can simply turn the footwells off and leave everything else on.

I'm thinking of doing the On/Off/On switch as well... Would this setup work:
First power: dome lighting Second power: ABL lighting so its on when its dark (where's the best place to tap into?) Also, being that there's two strips, is it best to tap one into the other's power/ground cables or tap them in seperately to the same power cable and seperate grounds? |

The only problem is that it's easy to leave them on by mistake and end up with a dead battery.

I have bright ones wired to come on with the dome light. I want to install a second set to come on with the lights. I don't think I want them dimmed, I could tap into the traction control light in the console for that. Where is a good place to tap for power when the lights are on?

I plan on tapping into the traction controle wire and wiring it to this dimmer I have, so that way when I chose to turn halos on or when it's running at night it will stay on during the ride or dimmed if wanted
