That's why I keep a list of all the price gougers now. Prices WILL come back down. CTD can kiss my ass when that happens. Sportsmansguide will likely get some more business. They're sold out, but they kept prices fairly low this whole time. 1000 round case only went as high as 360 bucks or so. Just that they don't have any in stock :(

Finished putting this together last weekend. RRA lower, Spikes Tactical upper. 16" 1:7 twist barrel. Unfortunately all the local places are sold out of ammo and online places seem to be sold out or stupid expensive. Who knows when I'll actually be able to shoot it.

Having the gun is a start The bullets will come sooner or later. If I might make a suggestion... if that's a red dot or holo (not a scope), I would consider moving it all the way forward on your rail.

Oh yeah I'm def going to play around with a red dot configuration. I just threw that on there so it didn't look so bare. Appreciate the suggestion.

I totally disagree with this. I've taken my Grendel AR out to 800 yrds and be just as accurate as my buddies 260 rem bolt action. I also know people that take theirs out to 1k+ yrds. The accuracy of the AR platform is very underestimated if it's chambered in a caliber that can go the distance.

I was checking several out at the gun show I went to last weekend. I would like an illuminated one that can adjust pretty far out. I was thinking something like 10-40x50 I have done some hunting and have been shooting for a long time just haven't done much long range, so that's next on my list.
For a .223/5.56 300 yrds is really about the limit and be accurate. Even if you reload and use 75 grain bullets (the heaviest I would even think about using and even then I probably wouldn't) you will have accuracy issues at 300 yrds as this caliber simply wasn't meant for long range.

For this close range, a 10x or 12x will be plenty. If you ever get a caliber and are wanting to go to 500-800 yrd range then I would go to 20x-24x. I would never waste money on a 40x scope unless you have a .300 Win Mag or a .338 Lapua and are shooting at 1,500 yrds and at this point the quality of the glass matters more then the magnification and we're talking scopes in the $8-$9k range.

Remember glass quality matters more then magnification. If I was given a choice between a high quality 10x scope and a ok quality 24x scope I'll take the 10x scope without question. A high powered scope is worthless if you have issues seeing past mid power.

We had been talking about the 5.56 ARs.

I've yet to reach out with my AR, but I do recall shooting 40/40 with iron sights while I was in the army (infantry). I'd have to guess about 7 of the 40 pop up, waist up silhouettes were at 300 meters. I don't remember the exacts about it, but during a sniper class we did with the M24s we also took out our M16s and shot paper at 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 to see the grouping and drop. Zero'd our guns at 25m, with rise and fall that puts it on point at about 200m, high a couple inches at 100, couple inches low at 300, and so on. In ideal conditions (known drop for your load, good glass, no/low wind, quality barrel, etc) you could group well at 500 + with an AR-15. And group well I mean I'd be comfortable in combat with it.

Side note, in Iraq in about July of 03, 4 months into my tour I got to go on a mission with the bad asses. They let me target shoot the Barrett at our makeshift range. If you really want to reach out, just buy a Barrett and some exceptional glass. By the time you have built a 1,000 yard rifle you could of bout a Barrett.

Looking for results on ARs at 500 I found this. Not bad for iron sights, comments say 1/5.

Based off what I see, I am surprised he hit it once. Piss poor shooting position with his elbow on the table. Not bad for an old A4 style AR. With todays rifles though you can ping those things one right after another. As long as the wind cooperates. Damn Wind
