Radar detector would do you no good at all for an aircraft patrolled speed zones.

They use simple math to very accurately calculate your speed.
speed = distance/time

You'll notice some markings on the road.
The distance between those markings is known down to the foot.
Using a stopwatch, they will measure the time it takes you to travel that distance.
That then gives them the exact speed you were traveling.

So, you would need to argue the guy operating the stop watch was not doing it correctly.

It would give them the avg speed. Ticket vs. no ticket. Any time (past 40+ yrs) I see a plane over the freeway I keep track of what they are doing.

Yeah, as long as you slow down long enough it would work, but might get a ticket for impeding traffic. haha

I remember when it was more lax back in 1973. My brother and I were returning home in his 1968 Mustang from western Kansas on 80. Open road with minimal traffic. There were four of us cruising at 120. When someone passed us one of us (HP) pulled out and gave a ticket.

South Dakota has done this with a Cessna and Nebraska does the same thing with a 206.

Thank you for the article. Brought back memories (of stories!). When my dad got out of the Navy in 1945 and married my mom in Mpls they moved to western Kansas. One job he had was Deputy Sheriff. He used his own single engine plane sometimes on his job until the Navy asked him to return and be a flight instructor for the Korean War.

I had a Nevada Highway Patrol (I believe) Cessna fly parallel with me a couple months ago when I was north of Las Vegas. I was the only car in the immediate area and the plane seemed to track me for about 10 miles. Nothing ever happened to me but I thought it was interesting.

Just recently got one myself. Cop Got me on Radar. I asked to the see the gun, he didn't have it locked in or anything. Then he had the audacity to tell me that if we go to court the judge will believe him over me. Needless to say, we will see if he shows up in a few weeks from now. If he doesn't, case dismissed. If he does, then i will get the ticket lowered. This is why you should FIGHT tickets. The guy lied to my face and then told me that he had more power than me. Ridiculous! BTW*** this is not a jab at any officers or anything please do not delete this post***
