My car just woke up.

Wow i hit about 1600 miles and man... this car got fast. at first i thaught car seemed to be a little sluggish with 426 hp but with engine broken in and oil changed (royal purple) this car really flies and have not much doubt of the 0-60 claims

I have 1285 miles on mine and this hasn't happened yet. The car has always seemed fast to me, I've never owned a car with this kind of HP. Has everyone experienced this sudden change in performance @ 1600 miles? How about before 1600 miles, or after?

Did you have the royal purple break in oil in it or just changed to royal purple when you changed the oil?

Wondering if the computer does anything based on mileage or when the oil monitoring system is reset when the oil is changed.

I don't think so. I think you have to program it when it's changed. The life meter is milege based on the MX (maint) schedule. The ECM does monitor pressure and temp however.

I have been a mechanic for over 20 years now, and have built and rebuilt both gas and diesel engines from a Briggs and Stratton to a 425 Caterpillar. There is no magical mile or time that an engine takes to "loosen up".This all depends on "how" one breaks an engine in.Noticeable power gains are the result of valves and rings seating and sealing the combustion chambers, making more power. Also, as the engine breaks in,the crank and rod bearings find tolerance, letting the rotating assembly to rotate more freely.Don't believe everything you hear on "the power block" every saturday or sunday afternoon, they're trying to sell you a product. There is no such miracle oil that will make a car feel that it has doubled in h.p.
