Sadly Selling My Camaro - Question About Smog

Edit: Think I'm in the clear as it says any car 4 or less years old doesn't require smog check. So with a 2011 I'm actually good to go.

So after recently paying off my car, I have to sell the Camaro for work. I need to purchase a truck. Sad days. It is what it is though, so I was curious about smog since it's a 2011. Do I still have to have it smogged before I sell it since it's under 5 years?

PS: KBB is $19.5k.. seems so damn low. 1LT/RS with 43k miles and some tasteful mods.

I can't imagine having just one vehicle. Since it is paid off, is keeping it out of the question and adding a truck (payment)?

If you're a dealer.

I have a motorcycle I just picked up, 2011 Ducati Streetfighter 1098. So that is eating some payments. If I didn't have that I would just pick up a truck and payments.

The buyer is responsible for the smog when your a private seller. "As is" are the magic words. Mods actually affect the value of the car when trading it in, because the next buyer might not like them so it limits the number of "potential buyers". Get a quote from CarMax they normally provide a decent offer.

Actually, "as is" are not magic words.

From the California DMV (which is where the OP is from):

"If you do sell it without a smog certification and it doesn't pass, the seller is responsible for repairing it to the smog certification standards."

Modifications don't really add much value to a car.

It doesn't need to be smogged due to year though. I don't believe the buyer needs to smog it yet either. Since it's under 4 years old. Even if so I can throw on the on AI and it should pass smog fine as the CAI is - for the most part - a visual inspection issue more than actual pollutant issue. In fact it might get better mileage and pollute less with the CAI, but California is a dumb ****ing state for a lot of shit.

That's good to know, I normally just trade my cars in so I never had to deal with this issue. However, I have bought cars from private sellers and I do know I paid the smog.
