Did Anyone Have To Protect Their Camaro Last Night?

I got a call from a military buddy who currently lives in an apartment with his family. It's not the best area in town to live, but it was a short-notice transfer.

I got a call last night to lock and load. My buddy keeps all but a pistol for him and his wife in his Montana homa gun-vault. Last night's "festivities" caused a large group of people to gather in the area/neighborhood where he lived. His wife's new Camaro SS and his Corvette were parked under the carport in the apartment parking lot. Leaving them exposed to rioting vandals was not an option as most insurance companies do not cover riot/insurrection damage.

I grabbed the 8" barreled shotgun (and tax stamp), along with the AR from the safe. Threw some extra mags and ammo in a duffle bag and headed his way in my old Dodge truck.

When I got there, he was the object of comments about his Caucasian race from a group of about 20 people. The apartment entrance was blocked by people so I jumped the curb with the truck and parked it next to his vehicles. The weapons were removed from the duffle bag on sling hung them off our shoulders. He had the AR and I had the shotgun (the tax stamp covers ME) and we said noting to incite anyone, but we KNEW the cops would be there sooner or later. Before the cops arrived, 2 of his military buddies arrived - also carrying rifles on slings. The cops arrived and immediately checked my shotgun paperwork (NFA weapons tend to do that to police). Satisfied we were not doing anything illegal, the police warned the boisterous crowd that we were all legally armed and were all military trained shooters - they then said it would be best if they avoided confrontation and moved down the block were there was another crowd gathered.

They didn't leave and instead taunted us for a few hours - before dispersing around 0400. I'm having dinner at his home tonight and am "on call" in case his wife needs help. My buddy was allowed to go home early after he filed a report of his family/property in possible danger. Oh well, it may be another long night.

Good job... I'm glad there are people like you who will not cower in some politically correct orgy of permissiveness and fear.

It's too bad more homeowners, vehicle owners, and business owners were not as prepared and ready as you were last night. My sympathies to the victims of last night's "protests," but shame on them for not being prepared.

No, I did not have to take any action last night, as my family and I live in a reasonably rural area that is not prone to racist attack... however, we are prepared, we are on alert, we are ready for whatever the ignorant and racist protesters might want to try.

I agree about the "protests". When did looting, arson, and shooting firearms become a part of protesting? I watched a few protests while in college and blocking streets/building entrances was about the only crime that was a part of the protest. I guess you could add pot smoking to the "crimes" I saw during protests, but I don't really consider pot smoking to be a crime.

That's because these aren't "protests"....they are riots.

Couldn't agree more...better not say anything bout the pot, but....yeah! Lol
Nothing near my house thankfully. And yes sometimes if not all the time the media drums up things and well let's just say... Has the potential to screw up the stories to where you got 5 stations telling 3 stories. (Such as the whether)
-Good job protecting YOUR things from OTHERS destroying. If we are on the same page about these "peaceful protests"I hear ya. What's so peaceful about getting your point across that you have to set fires and damage other peoples shit? If someone decides to damage MY things in a riot, not protest, you have the intent to destroy and not rationally have your word heard

I am about 40 miles from NYC and there wasn't anything more than people marching to Times Square. Nothing happening in the 'burbs, thankfully.

There was a small uprising over in Ithaca last night, but from the pics mostly college pukes and hippies. Blocked the main drag through town. The police's solution was to route traffic around them. WTF? They have fire trucks with water cannons. Plus it's about 30 degrees. I would have paid to see that. Yep, just saw the pictures from it online.

Nothing happened around my area outside of DC but there were protests by the white house and capital building I believe. Thankfully nothing on my way out of DC monday night.

I agree with everyone here that these aren't protests and these are riots. Burning down shops and lighting cars on fire? Come on.

Good job on protecting your possessions and your buddies possessions. I wouldn't mind seeing this shotgun though lol

A group blocked one of the interstates & main downtown streets in Nashville for a good while last night causing traffic nightmares but I haven't heard of any damage as yet. Sorry for the problems OP but glad you guys are there for each other. Be safe & have a happy Thanksgiving. Hope it calms down.
