Braided lines on Moroso catch can?
Has anyone successfully put braided lines on their Moroso catch can? Those stock rubber hoses have to go before show season. The can is great, but those hoses are not.
I think they are 3/8" fittings on the can itself?

Seems easy, although I've never put anything like this together from scratch. Any help is appreciated.

I have the Apex catch can with braided lines. Maybe they are the same size? http://www.apex-speed.com/camaro/10-...and-hoses.html

I thought about the Apex lines. Inquired and was shot down. Must've caught him on a bad day when he wasn't feeling helpful!
Thanks for the replies.

It is easy to do yourself. I did all mine. Summit sells the right tool to cut braided lines and all necessary fittings, including the line itself.
They even have a video: I also watched a couple of other vids on youtube to help out. Just be careful after the line is cut the frayed line can really hurt. I used wide electrical tape and a vice. I would also suggest getting a couple extra fittings because it is easy to mess them up the first time.

you can kinda see the black nylon braided lines on my E2 in this picture. They look pretty good.

You should be able to find a speed shop in your area to buy the hoses and fittings from and could probably persuade someone there to help you out. Buying the cutter for 2 hoses seems a little overkill. And them darn little wires are certainly sharp after you cut them. I prefer XRP or Areoquip.

There is a far easier and cheaper way to cut steel braided line. Wrap the area where you want to make the cut with black electrical tape. Only wrap the tape around so its just made 1 complete turn, and overlap the tape by just a little. As you are wrapping the tape around the hose, you want to apply force to stretch the tape so its on tight! Then find yourself the biggest chisel you can get your hands on, and get it as sharp as possible. Then find a scrap piece of thick aluminum sheet, place the hose on the aluminum, get your chisel, place it in the middle of the black tape, and wack it hard, usually 2 to 3 times. It will cut the hose CLEANLY!! Now the trick is to LEAVE the black tape on the hose. This works as a marker to let you know if the hose is pushing out of the AN fitting, plus it keeps the steel braid tight. Then grab your AN fitting, and push on the hose end. Once the hose end is pushed on the hose, you can also mark the hose with a sharpie, as this will help to make sure the hose does not push out when you screw in the second piece of the AN fitting. You can also apply just a little white great on the male end of the AN fitting to help it push in the rubber inner part of the braided hose.
I have been doing AN fittings and steel braided hose for 20+ years, and this method has worked flawlessly every time. |

I think I spent maybe $40 on black braided line and all the fittings I needed to install my Elite CC over the weekend.
Took me about an hour to install and that includes assembling the lines from scratch. I agree with the above, though the nylon braid isn't nearly as difficult to cut as the stainless. I used a heavy duty pair of tin snips without much trouble. Taping it is a good idea. If you don't have the aluminum AN wrenches, wrap the fittings in masking tape to keep from scuffing them.

I ordered the nylon braided kit from Elite Engineering today. They are 3/8" fittings as well, so they should bolt up and install without a problem. I'll post up a picture when I'm done. Thanks for all the advice. If this doesn't work, I'm going to have to make my own set.
As popular as the Moroso catch can is, I thought someone would have done this already...
