TPMS - Lifespan?
My car is 6 years old and I'm about to install new tires, and I'm not sure if I should replace the sensors at the same time. Does anyone know how long the TPMS will last?

They say about 10 years give or take of battery life.

Thanks, I think I will buy new sensors and keep the old ones for my winter rims.

If your car is already 6 years old I'd say the odds of all 4 sensors lasting through the next set of tires is pretty slim. Unless you burn through your tires pretty quick that is. |

My wife's 2008 Suburban has 183,000 miles, still on the same TPMS.

I'd keep using the stock ones until they fail. That's what I did and I also have one of the early Camaro's (Built Apr 28, 2009). But I do keep mine in a temperature controlled garage, with car never seeing rain/snow (And 31,000 miles).
I have an '08 SS Impala (65,000 miles) and the front drivers side TPMS sensor every once in a while reads ----- and gives me to check TPMS. Then it goes away. Doesn't affect drivability whatsoever, but I do like checking tire pressure quite routinely.

If and when you do get sensors you might want to shop around online. I like gmpartsdirect and they are charging $40 US for the factory Camaro sensors, which I think is about $48 Canadian. I had to replace them on my wifes 2008 Saturn and I ordered the parts on line and brought them to the tire shop. http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/catalog/frameset.cfm |
