I cut the stud and let the "bolt part" no issues

Are you talking about the ground stud for jump starting the car? I removed that and left the ground bolt in place. Filter comes right out easy as could be! No cutting of anything.

The ground bolt and the ground stud are 2 different things...

I removed the stud which is only in place for jump starting (it just screws off) but left the ground bolt which grounds out the grounding wire and is not in the way of the filter.

Why are people cutting stuff and messing this up?

That is the only purpose of the stud.
The bolt and cable are a non issue and a separate thing entirely.
(Mine is a 2013, maybe they made a change?)

The ground lug is holding the steering ground cable on the 13s RotoFab just does not want you to remove because of liability. Just relocate or use a regular bolt.

Not on my 13. The ground stud was separate from the ground bolt that holds the ground cable. All I did was remove the Ground stud with 10mm socket. The ground bolt and cable were not moved or touched and didn't need to be. No cutting required. Seems I am not alone as some have the same setup.

The below pictures show the factory grounding bolt as it came on my 2013 ZL1.
I only removed the ground stud (jump start grounding location) which was 100% separate and just screwed off.

Air filter comes right off without any issues, fits like a glove and looks super clean!

As Skylane posted and for me It's hard to recall now. It was so long ago and my first aftermarket modification. On my 2013, I just unscrewed the 10mm nut and moved the "ground cable" to the stud where the stock air box used to sit over. Reused the same nut to tighten the cable to it's new location.

I just replaced the ground stud with a bolt, problem solved. There are plenty of other places in the engine bay to hook the negative cable to should you need to jump it.

I believe so, but I can't say for certain as I didn't measure it traditionally. I happen to have a large collection of nuts and bolts from other projects through the years and I just took out the grounding stud and matched it up with one I had on hand. Pack rat FTW!

2012 ZL1's had the ground wire held on with the grounding bolt/stud. 2013 and up had the ground stud separate from the actual grounding wire which was only held on with a nut.

Hmm... Mine is a 2013 and my ground wire was held in place by the ground stud. It's one piece. Could be a later year thing, mine was an early 2013 model.
