2010 Camaro. Tire destroyed. Thinnest rear tire size for 245 45-20 fronts? Confused..

Hey guys, I need a quick opinion. I used to run 275/35 front and 295/30 rears, but a flat tire on my front caused me to go back to 245/40 front. I have a 2010 Camaro RS edition (20 inch wheels).

And now my rear tire also needs replacement. I REALLY liked the thin profile look my old tires had, so I was wondering what size should I get for the rears. I'm a little confused again.

I think 296 was too wide for me (cracked easily), is 285 okay? If so, what size of 285 should I get to get the thin look I had earlier? I don't know whether to go 40,35,or 30 for my middle number

Thanks guys!!

Btw, Going smaller because discount tire said my old tires fell apart when they tried to fix the nail in the center. Then they said they're not allowed to install my old size again, so that's why I'm looking to go 285 or 275.

The rear wheels are 9" wide so the widest tires you should be putting on are 275. You could go with 275/35 to better match the 245/40 fronts.

I believe he wants a "lower profile" I assume thats what he means by thin.

To figure out the sidewall height (profile) Take the middle #, that is the percentage of sidewall height vs the tread width.

so a 275/35/20 would have a sidewall height of 96.25mm or 3.79 inches
(35% of 275mm is 96.25mm)
295/30/20 would have a sidewall height of 88.5mm or 3.48 inches
(30% of 295mm is 88.5mm)

Use the middle # to get your profile you want.
You need to keep the overall height difference between fronts and backs close to 1/2" or less.
that old setup you had may have thrown stabilitrac codes.
275/35/20 is 27.58"
295/30/20 is 26.97"
Hope this helps

Thanks! That DID help! I was able to get things ordered.

But I realized after ordering AND already being shipped out. TireRack said it was the wrong size. Will my 275/35/20 not work for me? Was I supposed to get 275/40/20? I would prefer the 35's over 40's due to the lower profile, but I'm just not sure if firestone will install them still or if they will cause harm.

....right now I'm running a god knows what spare tire on one (155/70/18 I think?), and a 295/30/20 on my other rear, while my fronts are running 245/45/20 until I can get my rears on. I drove about 300 miles for thanksgiving luckily with no issues (didnt want to).... so I'm hoping my new setup will work.

275/35 is not a problem, however, due to the smaller diameter your speedometer and odometer will be off a bit - in this case they'll be reading faster than you're actually going, about 3.8%, so you may want to get the speedometer recalibrated, but these tires are still perfectly safe to drive on.
