LS2 Edit vs Other Tuning Software

I don't often see many people who use LS2 edit to tune the Camaro. I'm assuming there is a good reason for that but I don't really know much about after market tuning software.

How does it compare to other tuning packages like HP Tuners or EFI Live?

Does it just not have access to the number of tables the others do or is it just less user friendly?

Can you get the same "quality" of tune with LS2 Edit vs the others?

LS2 edit fell behind the times on tuning.I use to use it in 95/96 or so. Tried EFI live and never looked back.

Do you know if it allows you the same options as the other systems? I'm guessing not if you haven't used it for 15 or so years.

Sorry, getting old and losing years... LOL 05/06. Truthfully I forget alot of stuff about it. I know the logging sucked, changes were alot less than the other tuners and it locks the computer when you use it. Nevermind if you lose connection the car computer was junk and you had to bring the car to the dealer to be reflashed.

It was really bad. Go with EFILive. It has the best logging and on of the top two tuning packages. I think they are number 1 but I have been using them for years.
I think I stopped using edit in 2005. It is more DOS based.

I'm about 99% sure my car was tuned with LS2 Edit. Would I see much of a difference (in anything- performance, MPG, shifting quality, etc) getting it re-tuned with a different software package?

I have an L99 with a cam and LS3 conversion bits, LT headers, exhaust and an intake.

Depends on what was touched in the original tune, not way to know without seeing the tune. If you have changed or continued to mod since the last tune......then your answer is probably yes.

No new mods since the last tune. Just didn't know if LS2 Edit was leaving significant abilities on the table in any of those areas I mentioned above. I have faith in the tuner, I'm just not sure about the software package used.

If he used LS2 Edit there is a good chance the computer is Locked and NO ONE can get in it to make changes except HIM.

This is Totally Wrong IMO, and should Be Illegal.

It is Your computer You should have access to it.

Ted.

Can it even tune the A6 TCM's?

I'm 100% against it too. There are multiple approaches to unlocking though; both hardware and software. The hardware approach is not as easy as it is for GenIII controllers. Once the flash chip is off, the seed and key are ripe... At the end of the day, it's often more cost effective to replace the controller. I have also seen some PCM's that were 'locked' with Edit, but they could be flashed right over (full write) right through the OBDII port, so it's always worth trying.
