Question of the ages...Keep my SS (paid off) or sell it to get the ZL1?

Title says it all. Right now I'm torn. I will have my SS fully paid off by the time the ZL1 is released.

My wife says that I can keep it if I want, but I also want to have a good chunk of change to put down on the new vehicle. I'd have to sell it via private party to get the most out of the SS.

Well My philosophy has Always been "I like New Cars so I will always have a Car Payment" so once my SS (I'll Never get rid of it) is Paid Off, I will be getting something to join her... So I Voted: KEEP IT!!!!!

the longer you wait the less valuable it is going to be. I say save the SS as a daily driver and ZL1 as weekend beast

Unless you've got some pull with someone in Chevy or GM you're looking at least six months to a year after the car comes out before everything settles down and the paying public(regular Joes) can recieve them.

I'm torn! Another long wait with no idea what it will cost or dump the money on a Maggie and suspension. Or just keep mine stock and influence the wife to get a CTS-V. Decisions... Decisions...

Here's the way I would do it.If the car is a R6P KEEP IT.If not what does it matter. The ZL1 is the only one you will drive anyways.I would not want to drive the lesser of the two.Which works out good if it is a R6P camaro(low miles). That's the way I would do it.Good Luck on that decision PS Let us know if it is R6P camaro. Thanks

Keep the SS, mod it and leave the ZL1 in the dust everytime you see one. LOL

MMM both sides are putting up some good points.

So far I have put some mods in the SS, but nothing to drastic. I have done Cold air inductions intake, headers, high flow cats, borla cat back, Barton short throw shifter, Jannetty racing tune, 4 gauge cluster upgrade, IOM door inserts, and toe rod and trailing arm upgrades.

Since the ZL1 is supercharged I was thinking of either leaving the SS the way it is or put a cam from Jannetty racing in it. but then that takes away from my pay off plan, so if I do it will be well after I have the ZL1 in the stable..

Thanks for the advice so far, I look forward to seeing what some of the others have to say.

I was also thinking along your lines of getting the ZL1, until I did the math. The ZL1 is a great car, but right now rumors suggest that the car will start at $49,995.

That means that by the time you give it options, it will probably be around the $55,000 range + gas guzzler tax + TTL and you are looking for a car that will cost over $60k.

My Camaro by then will be fully paid off and is still faster than 99% of the cars out there, so I am just going to save the extra cash and get a new car once the Camaro starts dying on me!

Just my $0.02 but I also value financial savings.

If you can afford 2 camaros, buy 2. I can't, so my thoughts are to wait until my SS is paid off and then supercharge it so it will be around the same HP as the ZL1. Cheaper in the long run from what I can tell to add a decent supercharger if the costs I'm seeing on line are accurate for the kit. I paid roughly 34K for my SS and a supercharger kit (even at 10K) still puts my all around price for that HP way under the rumored 49K for the 2012 ZL1.

...just my way of thinking.
