V6 Cars Constraint - Once and for all
OK, I need the straight facts on this becuase I have read several different threads and for my little mind its confusing so I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question but here it goes:
Is there a constraint on the V6's because each dealer is getting a floor demo unit? If so, when the heck are they going to start production of sold orders and what effect does that have on all of us buying them? I know there was a lot of talk of GM supplying floor model V6's but I didnt think it was at the expense of our deliveries and by this I mean May is the first month V6's will go in!?!? Some please put this in very plain, easy to understand terms for us with V6's in the hopper. Chevrolet Team: Just a quick update on the Camaro launch as preparations are underway this week for the first Dealer Order Submission Process (DOSP) for the all new Camaro. As outlined in this month's consensus notes, the following items will be on constraint: * V6 Engine (LS and LT models) due to one per dealer activity * Cyber Gray Metallic and Summit White Exterior Colors (pending paint availability) * The LPO High Wing Spoiler (pending validation) An additional constraint will also will be introduced for the Hurst Short Throw Shifter LPO (code VYV). This shifter will NOT be available as a LPO accessory (appearing on the window and invoice as a dealer-installed accessory), but will be available in the future as both a factory installed RPO, and a regular dealer installed accessory. Further information on the timing of Hurst Short Throw Shifter RPO will be provided in the coming weeks. Since this shifter will be available as a regular dealer installed accessory, orders with the LPO (code VYV) currently "in-system" will be removed. Dealers should also be encouraged to remove this LPO (code VYV) from their orders. Customers desiring the Hurst Shifter can instruct their dealers to either wait until the new RPO is introduced, or have the shifter installed at the dealer as a Chevy accessory after the parts are released for sale. Again, more information on the shifter including availability of the new RPO will be provided in the next few weeks. Finally, we are planning a web-cast broadcast on the Camaro launch the first week of March for wholesale team members only (dealers will have an IDL broadcast at later date). This web-cast will bring you up to date on current plans and activities including the Camaro unveiling for early May. Details on this webex will be provided next week. ALSO: Dealer #1: (Texas) My dealer has told me that GM will be taking/picking the first sold order from all dealers. There will be no additional sold orders picked, not until the PR V6, and the first "sold order" arrives the first week in May. Dealer #2: (New Mexico) Family friend (25 years), all ditto. The only difference he said was that the first sold order could not be sold until GM says so. Dealer #3: (Oklahoma) Brother-in-Law is the GM a dealership, all ditto. The only different thing said was that all first "sold orders" will be V8's

It's probably a fair assumption the V6s are initially constrained because of all the dealer stock cars, but since no one knows the initial rate of production (cars/day), no one knows how long the delay will be. Guesses are the best you're gonna get. My guess - 4 to 6 weeks.

i was trying to figure this out today and I figured about the same as Rodrunner though i was leaning closer to 6 weeks than 4.
Even if you consider the plant making 350 a day from start (not going to happen) and them making a 50/50 V6/V8 split (probable), if there are 4000 dealer cars to be made it will take them at least 4.5 weeks to get through them all. So my guess is probably 6 weeks before they start on them. Maybe a bit sooner if they are leaning towards making V6's. |

I believe GM said in the last IDL that dealers would have their one-per-dealer car within 45 days of the start of production. Which means they should be building customer orders mid-April.

I wonder if sold orders might not be constrained, but fleet orders would. Can they do that? I certainly think they should but then again, how many fleet orders will be going into the system for the first month? I wouldn't think that many would.

i just wanna know why its so important for the dealerships to have a camaro in the showroom in the first place. If you cant purchase one to begin with, and the people who have ordered will be waiting until the end of forever. Wouldnt the best advertisment be seeing these cars on the road? im pissed, i swear if i dont get my car my june 1st im going to buy a toyota. come on GM take care of your freakin sold orders. ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They want to get the car out there so people really start placing orders. The old saying, nothing sells the car like the car itself. But that usually applies when you can drive that car home.
Plus, the dealers can sell it well above sticker for those that have to have the first one on the block. Sucks, but it appears V6'ers are going to get bent over on this deal.

I'm trying to think of a way to go from a 1LT/RS to a 1SS but I think my wife would hellmurder me. Today is the day the dealer is going to call me and tell me that even though I'm #1 at the dealership I can't order an LT so I have to sit in a queue.

I totally get what they're doing and now get the V6 constraint.
Ok, so when I said I'd been fine up till June 1st, I'm on target, if I get it earlier, it's just gravy on my mashed potatoes. If for some insane reason the V6's should be pushed to August well then I'll pull a Les (Tom Cruise character) from Tropic Thunder on GM. If you saw the movie, you'll know what I'm talking about. Even with that, I'll never buy foreign. :flag2:
