Question about long tubes on a 98 ls1.
Im going to be buying long tubes for my 98 ls1. What are the avg gains with them? I was on the phone with RaceKrafters because there gonna need to tune out my code. Well he says its only 10-15. 20 with a tune. I thought 10 was a little low but 15 seemed more real. Right now my car has a lid, Borla exhaust. and 146k.

Sounds low. I'm no expert, but I'd expect to pick up around 20 with a tune, maybe a little more...

What else do you have done to the car? With a tune you should easily see 20+hp.
If i remember correctly, a member on the 35thLE forum dyno'd his SS stock @ 319hp i believe. Added longtubes, exhaust, slp lid & ram air kit, tuned it & put down 360 to 370hp. (i dont remember if he did any other mods, possibly ported the stock throttle body if anything else. i do remember that his biggest power mod was the longtubes) Now im not to sure completely on the exact numbers but they were around there.

25-30hp is what I've seen with LTs + tune. LTs are definitely the best bolt on mod for the ls1.

So that's 20 total with the tune and headers? Or just the headers? I was really expecting at least 18-20 with headers and non catted ypipe. Then maybe 15more for the tune. Or am I in dream land?

20 conservatively. Could pick up as much as 35. ya never know until she's tuned and on the rollers.

Thanks for the info. Guess I will just find out. After the headers and the tune how do you think I would match up vs the new SS? Im trying to race one of them soon. Only has lid and exhaust right now.

Do you plan on doing other mods? If so, i would wait on a tune. Get all the mods you want & tune it. Otherwise you'll be wasting money on getting a tune now, and having to get another tune after the new mods. My car's been untuned for 2yrs now, waste's more gas then it did in stock form. Runs a bit rich but other then that, no harm. Keep up with maintance, my car's around the same mileage as yours and still running strong.
