Ah, I changed my own oil and didn't realize my camaro needed 8 quarts of oil.

I just assumed it would take 5 quarts. Been driving around like that for 1500 miles until the car provided a message that oil was low. Hopefully it didnt cause harm and the extra three quarts just allows the oil to stay fresher before burning out.

I believe it's actually 8.9 qts on the LS3... I usually buy my mobile 1 in the 5 quart jugs as it's cheaper. Good thing the car caught it for you!

You're not allowed to do any more work on your car from now on.

Why in hell would you just assume?
Good thing you caught it before you caused damage (there probably is some by now anyway).

Look guys lighten up.

we've all gooned something up. at least he had the guts to post here and get some advice.

If it were me. I'd get another 8 quarts and do another oil change. just to flush out any extra particles that may have been generated buy the lack of oil.

as long as you haven't been running around at redline or don't have any new ticking (valve train) noise, you should be good to go.

I wouldnt worry about it unless there are indicators to point to there being any damage to the car.

Why does the book even matter at this point?? You should always check the dipstick after an oil change. But its listed in the fluid capacities section in the back of the manual.
