Depends on the dealer... mine gave me 48 hours to give her a once over and ome back with any issues... which they should be willing to do, even if you're having them wash the car. Not like you're going to see everything under the circumstances of buying a new car... Especially this car right!?

Here's the thread I posted oh so long ago, that describes the make ready process EVIL RS went through.

.

I'll be adamant that the plastic be left on until I take possession. No swirlies !

My question is, why is this an issue? Lots of other paints and clearcoats aren't that fragile, are they?

The paint type isn't a subject I'm that familiar with. Anybody have a good handle on the subject and care to enlighten us?

Issue comes from all of the rail dust (train ride from Canada) and brake dust (trucked to the dealer) and assorted airborne dirt and grime that land on the car before it gets to you. Then, the minimum wage employee at the dealership starts washing it... rubbing in the grime as you an bet he's not doing it with more than one bucket or more an one rag. You'd need a Kevlar based clear coat to withstand it.

It's not rocket science but a thorough rinse before trying to hand wash with clean water/ soap and a clean terry towel, not sponge, is important to not have scratches.
The lot boy /girl will have washed a few cars with the equipment at hand before refreshing it all and your car may be next with dirty everything at their feet.

Unfortunately I live in a condo, so i am buying the towels and anything needed to do a basic cleaning. Until I get a professional.

When we took delivery of wifes 2011 SS, I drove it off the truck. Not an issue as they knew what day it was comming and approximate time, they did the mechanical check and I took off the plastics and washed it in their bay. Found all the nice factory sheets etc.

Wow, I thought I was uptight about my car. Some of you guys that won't let your dealer wash your car are taking it to a new level. You trust them to order it. You are going to buy it from them. You will take it to them for warranty work. But...they aren't qualified to wash and clean pre-delivery?

Since mine is a 10-15 hour ride home, I'll let him wash it. Besides, I totally trust how he will have it taken care of. He is more of a car nut than me and in fact his whole family is.
I'll do the whole clay, buff and zaino treatment of my own when I get home.

I avoid the dealer unless it's a warranty issue. I get services at my friend's automotive center. He treats my car like he does his own (2005 Copper Edition Viper) and gives me a better deal than the dealer. And no, I never allow the dealer's careless detailers to wash my car.

Stay away from the dealer washing in general. One new Z28 I purchased was pulled into the wash bay and I watched as the employee proceeded to hit the right front tire on some metal wheel positioning guide and punctured the tire. I had to wait 3 days for the dealer to order another tire - they would not take another wheel \ tire from another car. The car was already paid for at this point and it took everything I had to not to kill someone there. Painful, painful, painful just for a half ass car wash.

I watched and allowed this ludicrous act to occur...

Car was FLAWLESS when I picked it up. Was it when it came off the truck? and don't care, it was when I took it home!
