Oil Separator (Catch Can) from Moroso...
I was wondering if anyone here is using this particular type. Moroso has been in business for a long time.... They are much pricier than RX, however, the unit looks pretty good.

Looks too small IMO. I would rather have my can bigger so that it has more surface area to cool the gas to allow the vapors to condense.

I have it and like it.

Got to play with one at a trade show today. It looks great but I want to say I've heard mixed reviews on it. Then again I'm not to sure about catch cans in general but whatever makes us happy and doesn't negatively effect anything (besides our wallet ) can't be bad.

I decided on RX after reading some people on here do some testing with a glass in line filter and dissecting one of their cans. It's the best, performance wise, was the verdict.
I ordered last week and still haven't heard anything though, not a mesage, email, nada. I'm getting a little worried it won't get here before the car does (crosses fingers) P.S. The Moroso one looks slick though.

Here is a detailed explanation of it's principle...
An oil catch can is typically used in turbo/supercharger applications, or high-performance race applications where excessive blow-by (leakage past the piston rings) of air and fuel vapor occurs. This creates a positive pressure in the crankcase. Engine manufactures have placed a valve on the engine block which releases this pressure. This valve is known as a PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve. During engine operation, blow-by gases, as well as oil mist from the rotating components of the engine, pass through the PCV valve and are routed back into the intake for the engine to burn off. However, some of the oil mist and other products settle along the engine intake and over time form a "gunk." The oil catch can collects the oil mist and condenses the fuel vapors while allowing "cleaner" gases to be passed back into the intake. Typically the blow-by gasses are passed through a wire mesh, which give the vapor droplets something to adhere to. Since the oil catch cans condense the vapor portion of the gasses, they will need to be drained periodically of all the oil, fuel and other contaminants. |

Been great. I got it because to many threads about RX and oil leaks, valves sticking and blowing out rear main seals.

The Moroso works much better if you remove the filter material from whatever side you use for the outlet. It hold oil at the outlet and lets a ton pull right through. Just remove the two smal allen screws that hold the filter media in the top portion and pull the steel wool out of the outlet side and it will trap far more than as it comes. Do a search on here for details on the testing (try for yourself, dont trust in anyone else) and you will see.

No oil leaks caused (unless installed backwards). And one reported valve frozen by condensation in the winter....so please get your facts straight if your going to make a statement like that. If you would place a clear glass fuel filter between the can and your intake manifold you will seethe amount of oil pulling through...and thats fine if thats what you want, but please dont post lies about the RX can. |
