The experts are telling you to just STFU and trust them because they're experts.

What you need to understand is that the engineering reason for the 1500 mile break-in is because it is the advice of the engineer and they said so. The reason why you don't know the answer is because you are not an engineer, and if you were one then you would be an expert and you wouldn't need to ask so many questions.

I'd simply trust him. He knows, and we all respect him for that, often absent a full explanation.
And as Nike says, "Just do it", just as Scott outlines. As he has said is an much earlier post, GM doesn't just make this stuff up...

The thing is everyone that flies in the airplane trusts that the engineer knows what he is doing without asking for an explanation on why certain things were designed to operate.

I worked in engineering for 18 years. So I know who needs to know the reasons thing need to be done, and who should trust the manufacturer.

There would be no such thing as a sevice bulliten or airworthness directive if the manufacturer always got it right.

I am not saying not to trust GM. I would simply like to know what drove the 500-1500 mile change between 08-09.

I guess the engineers know there are so many know-it-alls that think break in instructions are worthless anyway and will hammer the car the moment they leave the lot that they wouldn't accept any answer given for the change so why bother.

It took me 30 days to get to 1500 miles. It wasn't that hard. I spent $59k on this thing and if they say 1500 miles to break it in, who am I to question? I don't have $59k to piss away. I am glad I did it the way they said. Now if "anything" goes wrong, I don't have to worry about the 100 question's I would have had thrown at me about breaking it in wrong. It really isn't that big of a deal. I must be missing something about not wanting to do it the way the manufacturer has suggested. They built it!

There are probably 100 threads on here where so called "experts" will try to convince you the manufacturer is wrong about break in. Most all site racing engines or rebuilt engines as their examples. What they fail in is proper knowlege of how new car engines are designed and manufactured. They also fail because you are not only breaking in the engine but the entire drivetrain and brakes.
I feel like you, follow the manufacturers instructions and you cannot go wrong.

WHY Why why ?

When my kids were VERY young they were always asking why.But as they grew up they learned to understand there were rules that needed to be followed.Once the rules were explained a few times , & they were shown (sometimes by example), they began to not ask so many questions. All part of it !
