Raising the bar on being ****-retentive
Is there anyone more particularly-retentive than me when it comes to their new Camaro?
1.) 2012 2SS/RS, it has 271 miles on the car. 2.) It sits in the garage, under a dust cover. 3.) It sat on jack stands for a week while I cleaned the undercarriage of the car. That was a real pain. 4.) Dirty rags from wiping and waxing (yes I waxed areas under the car) were thrown away. Towels used to wipe down top of car can be washed and reused, but only after careful inspection. 5.) I used matching color-touch up paint on the undercarriage where any chips or scratches could be found. Was hard to do, but I did find a few. 6.) Changed the oil filter at 150 miles. Not the oil and filter, just the filter, and put on a Magnetic FilterMag as well. 7.) Oil change will come at 500 miles. As will new Oil filter. 8.) The side of the garage has foam padding around it. 9.) Changed code on outside of garage. 10.) Kids can no longer come in thru the garage, must use back door. 11.) Must plan out driving route prior, to ensure no construction is taking place on road. 12.) Pulled off all wheels and polished lug nuts and cleaned inside of wheels/tires. 13.) Have stashed away the q-tips for the finer detailing. (Wife furious, yells "Where did all the q-tips go!!! ) 14.) Frequently take out flashlight and look under car for any possible problems, even if it hasn't been driven in days. 15.) After driving, immediately pull in garage, pop hood and turn on floor fan to circulate air so everything under the hood doesn't bake like an oven in there. 16.) Meanwhile, my daily driver pickup truck is starting to look like hell. Let the jokes/laughing/ragging begin!!! That's right....I need help! |

Do you enjoy the car? If this brings you enjoyment; then go for it. If it's not pure enjoyment for you...then you're doing something wrong.

thats anal and all, but you paid for it, enjoy it, dont save it for the next guy to get a smoking car at a good deal when you sell. Drive it, wash it, make it look good, but its not going to be a collector. Sorry.

But what I did was staple some Inch thick dense foam padding along the side of the garage that the car sits closest to. It only comes up about waist high. Not an uncommon thing actually, I have seen a few members on this site with garage pictures who have placed some form of protection, so when the drivers side door opens too-far or too-fast if it should whack the wall, it will absorb some of the impact. I had the padding laying around from where we had a treadmill in the house. You can buy the stuff almost anywhere to protect hardwood flooring (which is what it was designed for). But it was not being used, so I put it to good use. |

Your car, your money, your decision!
Just make sure you get all your enjoyment out of it and if caring for it this way is part of that, don't let anyone else tell you otherwise! |
