..........after owning both cars I settled for the ZL1. It gives me everything I want, and expect, from an american muscle car built today.
Oh; the article is nothing but touters rhetoric and is not accurate. The ZL1 does not have a 32 valve engine. |

"Chevy offers a 6.2-liter pushrod V-8 with a supercharger, 580 horsepower, and 556 pound-feet of torque; Ford counters with a 5.8-liter V-8 with dual overhead cams and 32 valves (shock, horror, delight!), adds a supercharger of its own, and trumps with 662 horsepower and 631 pound-feet of gut-busting torque." |

Seems the concensus is similar between all those so far making comparisons between the two. Both are great cars, and do what they do very well in their own right. Like decathlon competitiors, one has an edge on the another in one area of comparison or competition, but in the end, one is a winner of the sum total of metrics. Camaro ZL1 gets the gold medal.

Two of the spectacular cars I longed for (but never owned*) in the old days were a Mustang Mach1 428 SCJ and a Camaro SS396 L78. Does it make me a traitor that I used to like both Fords and Chevys way back then? Well, guess what - I still do! As cool as those muscle cars were, the new versions outperform them and offer air conditioning, leather seats, and nice factory sound systems with CD players (or a USB port for your thumb drive). And I've just placed an order for a 2013 IOM 6M ZL1 coupe (estimated November delivery) to join the 2008 torch red with black stripes GT500 that's been in my garage since November 2007. Seems to me like these are the good old days.**
** If you can call paying full MSRP for a $58K Camaro the good old days. * Okay, so I had a '69 SS396 Chevelle with the L78 back then instead of a Camaro. |

It is a good timeto be a horsepower junkie. I am not die hard bow tie but I do lean that way. I am considering both cars. I think the Camaro is a better looking car and I am dying for a convertible!!! A dealership near me has 3.............???&^%^$&^%$&%

Reads just like the other reviews so far. Both awesome american muscle cars for the price. The Shelby wins the numbers game but the ZL1 still a very competent and even match for it but easier for daily driving. Take your pick, can't go wrong. The Z28 will be the game changer.

"We’ll just offer you this, as a parting note: The Camaro ZL1 is a better overall car, soup-to-nuts, than the Shelby GT500. "
