Window Tint?
I did a seach a did not find anything on the fourms..
So whats the final word on this? I just bought a 2013 RS and the windows need tint. I live in SoCal and after winter this is a must. lol I've seen some build threads with 30% window tint. Are there bad tints vs. good ones? Any help would be nice. Thx |

Laws vary from state to state, I've heard some areas in Cali have some pretty strict enforcement, others not so much. Also, remember not to get tint with the metallic foil stuff in it, it will interfere with the antenna in the rear window...

if your in a state that isn't hard on tinters I would go 20% or darker. if not then go with the state approved level. In WV it is 35% all the way round with 2 incher for visor on wind shield. will probably go darker next time since I see plenty of rides with darker tints than my own. In Cali I would guess they have a stringent level you can't go darker than.

It really depends on you, since cops don't know what exact % the window tints are. They will just go by a gut feeling, so I would just stick with 30%.
I know people who have done double layer 20% in my state and never got caught for it. The window tint look different depend on the interior of the car too. When my car had all black leather interior, the same 30% window tint looked a LOT darker than it is on my current beige interior. Also my personal opinion, extremely dark window tints look cheap, just like smoked tail lights. Those are often found on ricers than actual fast cars

Mines dark and I haven't been messed with.......yet. If you tint anything besides the rear windows you run a risk of getting pulled over for it. Where I live they don't enforce it much as long as they can see in the car. Check my garage and as you can see all of my windows are tinted. I think I have 5% on the back three, 20% on the side windows and 35 or 50% on the front.

#1 one concern for LE is his/her own safety (just like anyone else).
It makes a LEO real nervous if he/she pulls you over and can't see inside while making an approach. I had 35% Ceramic on my old SS and never had a problem. I also try never to give a LEO reason to stop me (safety drive!) So, with that in mind; some type of 3M Crystalline or Ceramic, at or about 35%, installed by one of the shops listed in my earlier post. http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...ts/Automotive/ |

I live in SoCal too and yes it is a must after winter. I had limo tint all the way around in my civic and never had a problem with the cops. The only thing I'm worried about for the camaro is visibility in the front windows :/

I think dark tinting looks cool but... Living in south Texas, cool is more of what I was looking for. I do believe you get what you pay for, so I opt'ed for ceramic based window tint that would block the maximum amount of heat transfer. Since I drive my 2010 everyday (or I should say night since I'm a shift worker) I needed it driveable under evening conditions, too. In Texas I believe we can go 30% on the front windows and any on the back, if you have outside rear view mirrors. Nothing on the windshield (unfortunately). Mine are 20% on the front and 30% for the rest. I went with 20% on the front because it looks to me like there is a factory tint all the way around. Anyway, on the hottest days of our summer, my AC has no problem keeping up and the car is better than I expected after sitting outside. Nightime visibility is also very good.
