Question from dummy
Hi!
I own a Camaro 2SS 45th Anniversary, and as many of Camaro's Owners in France, I would like to know your feedback about cutouts equipment. Actually, maybe it's wrong but this is why I would need your opinion, I heard about some trouble on engine valves heads in case of cutouts equipment, right or wrong ? Anyway, is there is a risk to use cutouts for the engine (valves, injection management, and son on) ? Thank you by advance ! To know more about French Camaros, you can have a look on this link: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=217985 Regards, |

Exhaust cutouts will have no effect on your valve covers, or any of your valve train at all.
I'm not sure if that's what your asking but i hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply, it's good new. But you're right, to be sure to avoid any misunderstanding, I join a picture about the valves (in red area) I spoke about.

your question is probably based on someone telling you about valve warping.
IF you run an engine without any exhaust manifolds and get it hot, then shut it down there is a possibility of cold air entering the exhaust ports and when it hits the back of the valves it could warp the valve. this was most prevalent on engines around the early 70's when the new engine temps started getting much higher than what was normal. and new metallurgy in the valves themselves. Open headers, at times have also been blamed for this affliction. although the actual culprit would be overheating the engine due to racing. A cutout has about .05% possibility of hurting the valves. depending on where it is mounted. remember that the problem is cold air hitting hot valves, so if the cut out is a couple feet away from the heads (or more) you won't have any trouble with that problem.

Thank you for you reply, I'm in course of translating because my "technical English" is not fluent but I do think that your answer is perfectly corresponding to the "rumor" I heard about.
I continue to analyse your answer, maybe I'll have other questions, anyway, many thanks !! |

I would love to drive around the Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile with cutouts open!
