1500 mile break-in

Okay, this I am not used to. Read the manual and it said 1500 miles for break in, nothing over 100 mph, 4000 rpms or rapid take offs.

Okay, standard break in procedure, but 1500 miles? I am used to 500, change the oil, good to go.

So - do I still change the oil at 500, doesn't look like it in the manual. Also - did notice that it said after break-in if you plan to race to replace the rear-end fluid.

yea, how much is it to replace the rear end fluid?

The 1500 miles is killing me. I am only at 300 now. I've not exceeded 4000 rpm of 100 mph, but I have had some decent take offs, its just so hard not too....

I've never owned a sports car so I will be going by the book....but considering that I put about 80 miles a day for my commute to work and back and also counting going to grab lunch somewhere, I'll hit the 1500 miles in no time.

yeah..........7553 is at 850 miles now. i'll probably drop the oil at 1000 miles, give her a couple hundred more miles and call it broke in.

i'm dying to put her in Competition Mode

Drive it like a performance car from the get go, but do not abuse it. That break-in period is out dated, my dad's 02 35th SS was driven over 100 miles home from Chicago at 100 miles per hour, it left the showroom with 7 miles on the clock. We never looked back without any problems except the convertible top seals just suck and leak every now and then. We do all matinence, use Mobil1 @ 3,500 miles had all fluids changed @ 30,000 and put in fuel system cleaner after every oil change. The car will last if you take care of it

I believe it read if you plan on continuous high speed or competitive use, replace rear end fluid..

BTW, change your oil at 500 miles, or maybe at most 800. Did mine yesterday...wish the pictures of the particles showed on the oil surface and when I dumped out the filter in an empty oil pan. There was ALOT of metal!

Change it!

I would change the oil before the 1500 miles Ricky, sounds like alot of metal is droping during the first couple of hundred mile from what other people are posting. Better to keep it as clean as possible, than have metal circulating around the engine. Thats what I would do if it was me.
