Not So Short, Short Throw Shifters
Hey guys, I'm posting this in the general discussion to get a few more eyes on the subject as well as to make the subject a bit more broad. Mods, if you feel it needs moving, by all means...
Anyway, I am looking to get a short throw shifter. Was primarily targeting the Hurst. I had a Hurst in my old truck and felt like it was almost too tight shifting. So I ask, are there any GM and/or aftermarket shifters that reduce the throw, but not to the level of the Hurst shifter? I kind of like the throws on the ZL1 that I sat in at the dealership, anything comparable to that? You can also simply persuade me to just suck it up and go with the Hurst if you feel it is just that good. BTW, I have a V6... PS: I searched the forums, not many threads on this or at this detail.

The OEM Hurst (though I believe it's no longer available) was a 22% reduction in throw.

So the OEM Hurst really is different than the aftermarket Hurst. I couldnt get a full understanding whether that was the case when I read through the forums. If that's the case maybe I can search online for a used or leftover one, would you happen to know a P/N?

So you want a short throw shifter that doesn't have short throws? You might as well get a cold air intake and pump hot air into it. Just giving you a hard time, I have the MGW shifter and love it. It replaces the whole system so as to have much shorter throws. Why don't you just look into replacing the shift knob with a shorter one? The throws will FEEL shorter because the lever is shorter, but it won't be nearly as noticeable as a true short throw shifter

you could just buy the zl1/1le shifter box, its available through gm performance parts... best shifter bare none, OEM or aftermarket in my opinion.

And thanks Bmatth for busting my chops haha. I still want a short throw, just not to the extremes. Well, maybe it would grow on me... idk, I'm gonna have to sit on this one. Maybe I'll wait for more ppl to chime in.

I actually thought that the V6 and V8 used the same shifters.

I thought they were similar as well.
Hey Ryne, do you know for a fact they will not work or is it simply only listed for V8's?
