First Problem- If you don't count the P-zeros

I'm still doing a phone tag with Chevy over my P-zeros (covered in another thread). But this is the first problem that is sending it to the dealer, and it's one I have never seen before.
I walked up to the car and something didn't look right. As you can see, on the left front there is a non contact area right in the middle of the rotor. My best guess is that the pad is fractured or the brake pistons are frozen. The car is still in break in, so I haven't been romping on the brakes or the gas. That may explain why there is almost no pulling to the right during braking. Stopped by the dealer (it's Saturday) and they were stumped. I'll take it back in on Thursday (I'm working Mon-Wed).
I'm starting to wonder if perhaps my car was in Hurricane Sandy and they moved it to K.C., where I bought it. Just a few odd things, like the car being set up on Onstar before... very strange.

I wonder if the pad was just warped a little. If it were pistons I'd think they'd press enough to at least keep the rust mostly off.

Didn't leave it, it would have just sat there until Monday anyway, then I would be out of town and it would have sat there until Thursday. I mainly wanted to see if they had any opinion, or if they reacted like they had seen this a lot. The brake- alignment guy said he had never seen it in over 20 years in the business. Did mention that some rotors were under a TSB, but it didn't look like I had those.

I agree with you, on the pistons. But I'm grabbing a straws here.

Yep, and the rotor appears to be true. Also, doesn't pull on braking like I would think. I'm not sure how I could make this happen if I was trying.

Well, the rotor was defective. I took it in last Thursday, but was unable to leave it. There was hail in the forecast and they had no place to protect it. While there, we looked at them and found a very rough area that has cut a slice out of the outboard pad. That in turn has created the non-contact area.

Exclamation

Update, it was as last suspected. Defective rotor from the factory trashed the pad, so 1 new rotor and 4 pads to be replaced. Should get it back tomorrow. If you've got a 2013, it might be worth a look at the rotors. This damage was done inside of 1300 miles.

If your onstar was already activated, your car may have been sold and returned or used as a loaner before you bought it. They can still legally sell it as a new car... you should call and see what the original in-service date is for your car. That's what they use to determine when your warranty expires and you want to make sure the clock started when you think it did.

Thanks, I'll do that. I'm now satisfied that it was originally delivered to this dealer and it only had 11 miles on it when I picked it up. But I will check the date.

Why do you think it should pull to the right when braking? If it pulls, that's when you have something not right.

62K miles and mine has never pulled either way on braking. It should go straight unless you turn the wheel.

With part of the swept area on the outboard left obviously inop, the car should pull to the other side due to more braking on the right.
It did pull ever so slightly but that was light/normal braking, it's still in the break in period so I didn't brake hard or from high speed.
There was some confusion on the Onstar side, they had to get a higher up at the dealer to come on and give the dealer code. So Onstar is good. I really don't care about Sirius/ XM, they can turn it off any time they like.
