Kooks Headers + Magnaflow Catback…cats?

I am ordering the Magnaflow catback part no. 16483 soon which will be followed by Kooks 1 ⅞" headers. I am wondering if I just go with Kooks hi-flow cats that can come with the headers or if I should fit Solo hi-flow cats into the setup. I've heard really good things about the Solo cats so didn't know if it was worth it or if the Kooks ones would be just as good?

Thanks.

I dont think Solo makes the catted connection pipes for headers. Go with the Kooks catted connection pipes.

SOLO makes HF cats designed to connect to stock headers. Once you switch to Long Tubes you won't be able to use SOLO. Stick with KOOKS cats for KOOKS headers.

BTW: I love my combo of KOOKS LTs/HF cats/Magnaflow 3"

Just curious....why are you ordering the exhaust before the headers if you know you are going to get headers? The headers change the tone and volume a lot so, you might want to consider doing that first and then make your exhaust decision.

I've considered this, but as soon as I get LTs I know I am going to want to get a dyno tune to get the most out of them and I am not in a hurry to void my warranty so I'm putting it off for a year. In the mean time, I want a better exhaust sound so it made sense to me to throw on the catback first...

Makes sense... your powertrain warranty can be voided for headers even w/o a tune (unless you swap them out before taking it in for service).

KOOKS cats are very good and there is no reason the think of changing them. Just be sure to get high flow cats as that system will be raspy sounding without cats.

We have an unbeatable deal going right now on the Magnaflow/Kooks package. Please feel free to call, PM or email me anytime with questions.

Best regards,

Tyler

Understood and good point. Make sure you really like your cat back tone because, after you install headers; whatever sound you have will be a good bit louder (very subjective so it may be ok for you) and will change the tone a little. There are lots of C5 members that bought exhausts before headers; then installed headers; then sold the original exhaust because they didn't like it anymore.

Also, if you are an L99, you may experience some drone (again, subjective) before you get your LTs and tune out the AFM. I also suggest getting the cats with your headers.

I haven't heard of LTs, without a tune, voiding the powertrain warranty. If that were common, I don't think that Kooks would have spent all the R&D developing the "green cats" that pass emissions. I realize this is different than warranty but, I would think they did some research on that too as they were deciding to do this (just my opinion of course).

Since you plan on getting LTs within a year, I don't recommend the Solo HFCs.

Just an FYI i have this catback and to be blunt. Get the headers and HF cats then just add a resonated x pipe and chop off your mufflers. I'd be pissed if i had paid full price for the Magnaflow. I got it dirt cheap so whatever. That said it's deeper and very loud but also quite raspy with the addition of headers.

1 7/8" headers and magnaflow 16483 sounds absolutely amazing. I listened to cavermans car one time and was hooked and ordered it for my car.
