How long have you waited? It does seem to take a long time to index.

I'm wondering if its because your flashdrive is so big. Mine is 16GB but I only have about 2000 songs on it. It takes a long time to index 7000 songs.

This is your problem. The Camaro has a limit of 2,500 songs.

If you wish to control more songs you will have to use a MP3 player and not a flash drive.

Must be an iPod. Only one that does it's own indexing.

That sucks I guess I'll have to get a few 8 gigs and fill them up by genre or something. :(

After playing with, and having this SAME problem of waiting FOREVER just to index 2000 songs, I found a slightly quicker way. It'll require a little bit of time still though.

The MAJOR problem (I think) with the indexing time is, the head unit tries to PLAY songs WHILE indexing, which eats of USB line bandwidth. I've found NO way of pausing or stopping playback of the USB key itself, and switching inputs STOPS all indexing from taking place.

During one of my LONG trips across the state, I discovered that the head unit STOPS playback, but CONTINUES indexing during a phone call! It turned a normal 1 HOUR long index time to a short 10 minute index time. So, my fix for LONG index times (at least for MY head unit), is to talk on the phone for the first 10 minutes of my flight... at least until I get the update from my dealership.

Now, if I could only STOP it from REINDEXING everytime I start the car, I'd be slightly happier. Doesn't it seem more intelligent to write a file to the USB key (or device) that the head unit can read instead of recounting and organizing everything in internal memory? Just a question.

yeah the manual is incorrect on a few things about the car. I have just a 2 gig in mine with about 500 songs, and it takes about 10 seconds to index.

A couple hints...
clean up your library and limit it to 2500 songs.
Remove non-music files (album art, etc).

I've got somewhere between 2000 and 2500 songs and it takes about 1min to index on each startup. Before I did the above, it was about 3min. Not sure how long the initial index took but it did take a while.

Where do the files need to reside on the USB...within the main drive or in some sort of subfolder named music?

I have mine in many different folders, and the camaro interface will allow you to browse through the folders, or read them all at once. Pretty cool actually.
