Brake System Question
I booked my car in to change out the winter tires and an oil change. They want to schedule me for semi annual maintenance but didn't give the details, plus they want to flush my braking system lines. The car will be 2 in June and has 43K kms. No, I haven't read the owners manual as I haven't had a chance yet. Just looking for some thoughts on this. Just to clarify, its the dealer making this recommendation.
Thanks |

Do you have an LS3 or L99?

I've had my car 4 years now, and have never been told to flush the brake lines?!? Not saying it isn't a possibility though, but then I'm waaay behind
I usually get the semi-annual inspection once a year, just in case they find something I should be concerned about.

The LS3 shares the Brake fluid cylender with the clutch, so clutch dust and particulate matter in the fluid can lead to issues.
It is probably unecessary. You can also add a separate clutch fluid reservoir. JDP has them pretty cheap, and it is a simple easy mod to install.

No. I'll get into the Owner's Manual tonight. My car has only ever gone to the dealer for service and this is the first time they are recommending anything to me. I'm happy with my dealer and their service department to date.

Which dealer do you go to? I'm booked for a sem-annual at shagannapi on Monday.

I'm getting just the inspection part of the semi-annual, as I don't need the oil changed yet. It's costing me $59.95. I'm also having them check for any oil leaks as my brother-in-law said there is some oil on top and underneath that I should get checked. It maybe just "sweating" but you never know.

Well the manual doesn't say anything about flushing the brake lines. It refers to leaks and topping up or rather not to. The maintenance manual refers to checking the brakes only. So I won't be completing that service.

You drive your car as a daily driver? Drive the car hard, like a road course race track? Since you have an LS3: I would strongly recommend changing the brake fluid !!! '09 Pontiac G8 GXP owners with the LS3 & 6-speed stick find if you do not change it enough...If you drive the car hard! The clutch might not fully engage; as the brake fluid heats up :( Plus as a performance car, the '09 Pontiac G8-series in the Australian owner's manual says to change it every 2 years. (Your 5th gen Camaro was R&D by the Australians - Holden.) If you drive it not hard, & it was a 6L80 auto transmission: You could wait until the next brake pad change. But keep in mind brake fluid absorbs water. It you have water in your brake lines...you can have brake failure under hard performance driving. The folks who road course lap their cars: Change their brake fluids every season; if not more.
