Speed limitor/governed
I am getting a 2014 ZL1 convertible and although I dont plan to be trying to run at top speed, I would like to know I have the ability to hit the coupe speed limit. So I am wondering if, the speed limitor or speed governor be changed with a tune?

As a lay person speaking here, I'm going to go with no. There's not like a switch or something.
Not going to make a huge difference to you. If you take it to a drag strip or road course, that doesn't require you to have extra rollover protection, you still wouldn't most likely exceed your current limit.

I'm almost certain it can be removed with a tune. At least I've read that many times. I didn't think to ask about it when Ted tuned mine since I didn't plan to go over 155 anyway.

You should already be at 185 mph with the ZL1.

Yes a tune would do it, but don't do it with those tires. They are rated for what's its tuned for.

The convertible Zl1 is governed at 155. So since the convertible and the coupe share the same tires, tires will not be the issue. it just comes down to whether a tune will allow it the same speed as the coupe.

YEP. basically, every SS, ZL1, and even a v6 RS is governed at 155 mph......the LT AND LS's are set at 118 mph.
but YES, a turner can remove the limiter all together.

Like others said, a tune removes it. I used the diablo predator tuner and was able to tune out afm, governer and shift points by myself.

The ZL1 convertible is governed at 155 and the coupe is opened. The limit on the convertible can be removed with a tune, but your warranty will be gone. There is no issues with the tires, all ZL1's use the same rubber ... Also on the convertible there is no PTM like in the coupe.

Only cars with the factory 18 inch wheels are limited to 118 mph. LT/RS is 155 just like an SS.

Story is, ZL1 verts are speed limited to 155 because GM wouldn't certify the top above that speed. Since they are speed limited, there was no reason for a belly pan. As far as PTM, could only guess it's because they figure few if any would track it on a road course beacuse of expensive safety mods.
