I'm not really surprised.....although I thought the races would be a bit closer. The new Vipers are beasts in a straight line. They can run 10's pretty easily bone stock in ideal weather conditions.
Let's see them run on a road course now. The Viper TA barely beat a C6 ZR1 on Laguna Seca.

Just saw that. Viper pulled hard. Disappointed in the Z06 after I saw this. Was expecting it to thrash.

Viper is a monster I would think that the new Z06 Vette will take it on the track but in a straight line I guess it is no contest unless it is a driver mod.

Confused

Why should the viper beat the zo6 that badly in a straight line. I thought horsepowers are about the same and so are the weights.

Not sure about these comments but thought I would post them, they were posted on the Video on youtube

The new Z seems to hit a wall at 130mph and accelerates far slower than a car that powerful should. At first, I though it was because of aero drag; the Zs in the RA videos all had Stage 3 aero. But this is Stage 1, it looks like, and the problem is still there. In the driver's words over on the Corvette Forum, the Z "falls on its face" after 130, and it also overheated several times just doing these brief pulls, in the middle of Winter. Not good. Not good at all. Summer is going to be brutal on these cars.

I know the Z06 is designed as a track weapon, not a drag racer, but this is just sad, with the car overheating and possibly sabotaging itself by pulling timing. If it can't even handle a few highway pulls in freakin' December, what's gonna happen on a road course? I'm seeing it now, Motor Trend's next Best Driver's Car competition, Laguna Seca in the middle of California Summer...The car that was one of the early favorites to take the whole thing, the C7 Z06, taken out of the running entirely because it can't even complete a single lap without going into "limp mode" and cutting power.

Possibly the same supercharger issues as the ZL1, and CTS-V, and I think the new ZO6 has a smaller supercharger. If that's the case you would think GM would have known.... I'm just saying not to say this is the cause.

All the reviews have been saying how damn quick the new Z06 is and claiming high 10's on street tires. My guess is heat soak and maybe some bugs to work out on the new model. Remember the C5 wasn't exactly getting handling and rave reviews at first and really found its way as the years went on. It may take GM a couple rounds to make it right but all the vids and info have been very complimentary.

Hot Rod magazine just did a great article on the new Z06 S/C engine. Smaller S/C spun faster to make the power. The ZR and LSA were to big to fit under the low nose of the Vette so this is a new S/C to fit. They claimed to have all the heat issues sorted out but who knows. For all we know the S/C could not be working right and there may be something wrong with this cooling sysytem or this car. Or maybe its just a kick a$$ Viper pulling 9's at the drags and laughing all the way as we all try and figure out what just happened.

I really would like to see a comparison between a stock no option Z06 and a fully kitted aero/Z07 to see how much difference in performance there is for the extra $25K.

When Randy Pobst drove the car at Road Atlanta, the first lap he ran was the fastest. Each lap after the first was slower and by lap five, the car completely overheated and he had to shut it off.

Here's a link to the discussion and video talking about the test.

I was wondering how they were going to handle the IAT issue with using a small supercharger and spinning it fast. This is why I always liked a 2.3 blower over a 1.9 and a 2.9 over a 2.3 for the GM 6.2 engine. Your always going to have to spin a small blower faster to make the same power as a larger blower. Because of this the IAT's are always going to be more on the smaller blower (assuming same cooling system) and the power will never be as consistent as the larger blower. Probably one of the best mods for that car will be supercharger cooling mods or better yet a 2.3 TVS or 2.9 Whipple with a larger hood.
