I have an old International Scout....If I re-call, IH saw that Bronco would eventually do them in...Scouts last year was it's best in sales, but the writing was on the wall...It wouldn't last...Just sayin' yeah it's cool to have a car that not everybody has, but sometimes it needs to be consistently on top in order for it to continue... |

Considering how old the 5th gen is now and the fact that the Mustang is a brand new platform I'm not surprised. Actually, I'm a little surprised that the 5th gen is out selling the Challenger considering 2014 prices and the 2015 refresh.

I don't get the "dated" argument for the Camaro. If being dated was a problem why is the Chally increasing (which is essentially unchanged for the entire production run?)

Edit: The Challengers refresh for 2015 also included a horsepower increase across the board so it is definitely not unchanged. Suspension improvements were also made.

Everyone is saying the 5th gen is dated... The s197 platform was around for 6 years when the new Camaro was released and it still held it's own for another 4 years after that.

I think the more simple way to look at things is to consider the price/demand curve for the Mustang pre Camaro and post Camaro because that changed dramatically. The Camaro came out and not only did the Mustang need $$ on the hood to move at a decent rate they also put off price increases for some of the years. Not to mention that they re-invested money into the Mustang to try and keep it fresh, they really did the right things considering the market situation. They even produced a cool BOSS 302 Mustang, it forced GM to produce an even cooler 1LE Camaro (2014-2015 1LE Camaro RS in black looks scary). With that said we have a new Mustang and soon we will have a new Camaro, I see both really pushing eachother into being much better cars. Not to insult the people on this forum however the future of these vehicles will not depend on the more traditional Mustang and Camaro buyer. What was done to the Mustang back in 2005 made sense at the time, the baby boomers were still overwhelmingly a major financial force. However we are in 2015 and they really are not the main force. Generation X is the new, these are people who started to turn 16 at the soonest mid to late 1970s. Which means a lot of them remember the cars of the 1980s as these were the cars they had around them brand new at the time. If I remember Porsche was a huge force during this time period offering a variety of vehicles. |

You drive a Camaro. It's a mass-produced sports coupe built by one of the world's largest automakers sold under the 2nd best selling brand in America. Truth hurts, but it is nothing special in the grand scheme of things.
