Accidentally Redlining before break-in..

I have a Camaro SS Manual 6 and have been pretty good with keeping the revs at or below 4,ooo rpms. On occasion I've gone up above that but not more than 5,000 rpms. Today I accidentally shifted from 2nd back to first and redlined it for a few seconds. I had the radio up high and was pushing the pedal hard.. :( I hope I didn't mess anything up.. I have not done the first oil change yet since I'm still at 1100 miles.. I was waiting for 1,500 miles to do my first oil change.. Should I be worried??

I doubt it. If you were doing it accelerating I'd be more concerned than on a downshift. Plus I don't think you'd be able to shift it into first if you were seriously/way over the red-line.
I'm sure there are others who might even say that a hard downshift (up to certain limits) helps ensure the rings are seated properly.
When I do something like that I wash/wax/detail it and somehow it seems to run even better. Amazing what a little TLC does....for yourself.

No I did the same thing a few times (more for fun than by accident, just couldn't resist) and I haven't had any trouble. I have a little over 3k miles so far.

You should actually be pushing the car more... no need to baby cars today that break in bs the dealer gives you is pointless you are just going to wear your piston rings down babying it for the break in period, anyone know who knows engines these days tells you to drive it like you stole it and vary that RPM as much as you can during the first 500 miles. .

Thanks for the advice. Pushing the car a little more today than I have been and the car is louder now than before at 2nd gear.. However it is an LS3 and its supposed to be loud when I hit it..lol.. I'm still contemplating when to do the first oil change.. I thought 500 miles seemed a bit early, however I will probably do it at close to 1,500 just to be safe even though some people have waited till 3,000 and their car is fine..

It doesnt hurt to do your first one early... It gives some people peace of mind to get those metal shavings out ASAP! On a brand new engine I usually do it at about 1000... but thats just my thing. Like you said some people do it early some people wait.

lol.. true. I wasn't too worried, I just was trying real hard to follow the manual's break in procedure.. I need to find the best price for the oil and filter. I was thinking to get some royal purple instead of Mobil 1 and stick with it.. Anyone know the cheapest online store to get it? Or if there is a special on Mobil 1 and it is even less, then I might just do that. Same with the filter as I'm just looking for the best price on a good quality filter.
