Question about when cars are actually dropped off by trucking company?
Does somebody need to be at the dealer to sign for a car when it is delivered or can the driver just drop it off any time? The reason that I am asking is that my car shipped 9/4, and I have taken the drive to the dealer 3 times looking to see if it has been dropped off.

You do not have to be there at all. Would be neat if you were though.

As for the op, I would assume so but I'm not sure. My local dealer always does theirs at night. |

No one has to be there. They will drop the car, leave the paper work in the car and toss the keys through the dealer mail slot, or key drop off slot. I have worked midnights for many years now and have seen many times Allied trucks dropping off cars at all times of night.

The car was shipped on 9/4 and you have already been there three times to see if it made it in three days? These cars are shipped by rail then the trucking company picks them up at the rail yard. It's very slow. It took 15 days for mine to arrive from the ship date and that was close to average. Even the best ship times were over a week. For $895 I'd expect faster shipping times.

At our dealership, someone has to be there to take delivery. That way we can ensure there is no damage to vehicle, that we get the correct vehicles, and we can sign them. Most trucking companies will not just leave them, because they are held responsible for any damages until the time that the dealer officially takes delivery and signs off on them

define "shipped" in your case. shipped from the factory? released from the rail depot? if you're talking about shipped from the factory, check my signature. if from the rail depot, the carriers do not mix brands. therefore, it has to be a full load of chevy's going to your dealer or a load to mixed dealers that are geographically close. when there's a full truck (8-9 units), the transit time is generally 1-2 days.

I would hate to have my car dropped off at 3am and just sit there. I will have to take pictures next time I see one making a drop at night.

By us, YES. We have a locked gate after hours. When they arrive, we inspect them for any visible damage and note it (if any) with the transport company. Sometimes it's hard when they have layers of dust all over them.
