Z/28 .R
Is there such thing as a Z/28 .R? What about a 1LE .R?

I'm assuming you are comparing the naming convention of the gt350R. The 1LE, ZL1, and Z28 are performance monnakiers for camaros as opposed to having the "R". If there was an apples to apples "R" Camaro it would be the Z28

I'm pretty sure the Z/28.R was the purpose built race car.

C7.R and Z/28.R are IMSA race cars. The C7.R edition Z06 vette is sort of a tribute to the race car. Currently no .R exists for anything but the vette. As you can tell by my signature I'm toying with making a Chevy Racing edition 1LE.R no such car exists but being a huge IMSA and WEC racing fan I think it would be a cool little personal touch if Its done right.
That being said. I'm hoping for a 6th gen Camaro race car in the IMSA Continental Tire series branded the 1LE.R similar to the 5th Gen Z/28.R that was run in 2015. In regards to production cars, unless the big winged ZL1 we have seen running around is branded as a ZL1.R I doubt we will get a production .R model car.

I don't think it was dropped.
It was too good. I read that with the continual restrictions put on the car it made it extremely frustrating. Don't think any teams would run them again because of this. Wait for a Gen6 program. You will see them back http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=446031

Good pointer. Thanks. I recall those BOP debates from 2015, but that doesn't quite answer why the Riley built non-Z/28.R was listed as eligible for GS in 2016, but the Z/28.R was not. |

I see Ford announced the GT4 Mustang for the Continental Tire Series and IMSA today at SEMA, yet GM gives us nothing on the Z/28.

http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-show...d-mustang-gt4/ It's a lot more than just an IMSA track car for Multimatic. It is a turn key GT4 race car from Ford for anyone that wants to buy one for any GT4 level racing. IMSA, PWC, FIA GT4 etc., or just rich boys track days. Think Cobra Jet for the track. |

The GT4 Mustang has almost identical aero to the Z/28 prototypes we've seen driving around. I don't think that's a coincidence.

The reason Stevenson was able to run them was because it was a factory-backed effort. The GT350R-C was supposed to be a car offered to customers after initial development of the 3/4 2015 season. I believe Ford Performance and Multimatic found the car to be too much of a sensitive and potentially expensive car to put in the hands of main stream racers. The Mustang GT4 will likely not have the 5.2L Voodoo and will have CPC 5.2L engine, similar to the aftermarket Ford Performance engine they introduced at PRI 2015. I am not sure why IMSA dropped the Z/28.R from the list late in the season. It was there until around VIR. I can say there was a lot of controversy over the running of the Z/28.R and Chevy... influencing... the rules in order to get a championship before pulling out of CTSCC. Again, this is just wispers. |
