Resale not good!!!!

I posted on something the other day that Black Book is the standard (normally) for trade in values as well as Retail and invoice pricing. Stopped by to inquire about an automatic and trade my 2017 ZL1 convertible with 700 miles for a coupe or convertible as long as an automatic. Black Book shows $66 and change. Offer price $55,000. Coupe depreciation much less due to the fact that convertibles are restricted from the tracks. Other factor is that automatics are extremely hard to come by in the DFW area. Sales manager said he thinks he can get more, but then there is the shortage of automatics. I can trade for a Corvette easier than the ZL1, but just bought a Z06. Just food for thought.

Did you suddenly decide you didn't want a manual transmission? Virtually ANY car used with 700mi is going to take a huge depreciation hit the minute you drive it off the lot. I wouldn't trust "book" values on a car that has just come to market. It's only worth as much as you can sell it for. I suspect private sale would be your best option. Good luck!

Usually you take roughly a 15% hit just driving it off the lot which would put it at $56k so not very far off.

I've been directly and indirectly involved in the retail and wholesale car business(among others) for over 30 years and can tell you without any reservation that "book" value at this point is absolutely meaningless. It is waaaay to early in the run of an extremely low volume vehicle to create a true profile based on used sales. These "books" are relying on computer algorithms and are notoriously inaccurate until ample sales volumes of used units can be compiled. 56K on a trade would be fair and quite generous for a straight dealer dump out. Keep in mind that first year(which could be 1st month) depreciation is almost always in excess of 15%. 20% is more realistic but can be 30% or more on some vehicles like a Mercedes 550SL as an example. DO NOT buy a Corvette, Camaro, etc. and expect it to hold value. 1st year depreciation is brutal.

Off topic - your cars are gorgeous. I would kill for a garage like that!

New Porsches depreciate like every other car. Unless it's a GT2/GT3/GT4.

Off topic even more, what type of drones are those? It would be nice to have a Z06 and Zl1. I would just keep the manual ZL1. I don't see how it's worth it to lose at least $10k to get the auto. If the Z06 is an auto, he can just drive that if he gets tired of rowing the gears.

Answers to questions.

1. Just curious, due to the fact that in Dallas every a--hole pulls up within inches and if you are on a hill you have to engage the parking brake or slip the clutch. Much easier with auto.

2. Not really going to sell it again just curious.

3. Drones are old DJI 450/550 first generation, well out of date now.

4. Garage floor done 4 years ago and the garage has a Fujitsu ductless AC/heater, TV, internet and sink with hot/cold water. 980SF.

5. I know depreciation, Mercedes S550 will drop $30,000 as soon as drive it off the lot. But it is a Mercedes and my favorite.

6. Mercedes GTS ended up a buy back by Mercedes. Never could get rid of the smell of engine burning oil. It wasn't, but the smell just would never go away. After 5 visits to the dealer, they just bought it back to the penny. The Corvette and the ZL1 equal to the cost of the GTS for comparison.

Sounds like I may find myself a lightly used ZL1 in about a year!

Boy, you sure do like to make poor financial decision with cars don't you? Not that I blame you, we all do it.

Also, Doesn't the M6 come with hill hold so you don't have to worry about people behind you?

I tried to get a used one but grew impatient.

Had I known that a car like this would be available locally, I would have waited...

Can't be hard earned money if it's spent so unwisely.

Stop taxing the little/middle guy so much and take more from people like the OP.
