Can't rev past 4k RPM when parked...normal?
Hi all,
Just had a quick question. When I'm parked in my vehicle and rev the engine, it won't go past 4k RPM. Is this normal? Thanks. |

Yes it's normal.
Which is why I bought a manual instead. |

Normal...word is it's not very good for the engine going over said 4k without having the resistance. I don't really understand the engineering / reason for it, but seems legit.

Not good. Back in the day when revving the engine close to redline you would get what is called valve float and would basically choke out your engine. Not sure about modern cars. I suspect it can still happen and maybe why its blocking you going past 4k |

Only for the autos. Probably to protect tranny from people revving up and slamming into gear.

Why are you reving the engine in park to begin with?
Not good for your engine. |

Yes it's normal. I really only need to go up to 2-3k max in track mode if someone wants to hear her purr.

Only when I'm about to accelerate. Clutch in, first gear engaged, ready for takeoff. And I don't go near 4k on the clutch dump. I'm not into replacing clutches or rear tires on brand new cars. Besides, I'm too old to rev my engine while I'm standing still like I'm 18 trying to impress some girls on the sidewalk or pretend I'm mean. I put it in first, let the clutch out, hammer it and go.
You want to hear my engine rev? Try to stay with me. |

Big difference in reving the engine to accelerate and reving it for the hell of it. I would think you'd understand that. Not being tough, it's common sense. Reving an engine in park is pointless and stupid. You think you're going to slam it into drive from park at 4k? lol |

You will come to appreciate the limiter...if you have aftermarket exhaust. If you are ever pulled over for aftermarket exhaust and given a fix it ticket, take it to state sound test. They will test your decibel level. Legally, they won't be able to test the sound level due to the limiter and they need to be able to test above 4k RPM in order for the ticket to stick. Go in front of the judge with the paper that says it's not testable and boom. No more ticket and you get to keep your exhaust.
