Adding HID's to the LS (Dealer)

Hey guys,
I recently made a thread about adding HID's to the LS. After a trip to the dealer they told me they would be able to install for $105. So my question is do you know where i could buy a set of them? Just like the ones that come with the RS package. Thanks guys

Yeah but you have to spend 1200 to go to lt and then 1750 to get the package. Doesnt make sense for me because im getting a different spoiler(One at sema) and adding gauges. Saves me money. There is also a guy that will get them to me for 400

The REAL ones for $400, or some aftermarket cheapies that give you ballasts and bulbs for the existing reflectors and won't have the HALO lamps and potentially won't have high/low beams either... as many aftermarket systems come like that.

Well keep in mind you'd have to deduct the cost of the halogen lights that are replaced when you get the RS since this is after market it's not an upgrade cost its a full replacement.

You cannot buy the RS headlamps and put them on a car that is not an RS. I tried this. I bought the RS headlamps, entire RS wiring harness all the way to the switch and a new switch. My Halos work and my running lights work but the actual HID headlights do not. My dealer contacted GM and they told my dealer you must have a specific code in the computer for them to work. GM will not give out this code and says you cannot make the switch over to HID. This is insane but what I am being told by GM and my dealer. So my next option is to buy a new PCM and BCM and I have to put a different VIN to these of an RS car and they will work. Crazy I know but after all this work why stop now. I have modified my car so far anyways that I have no warranty on it so I will do whatever to get my headlights working. Just a warning to others before you purchase.

Not true, I've seen it done. XtremeSS has it done on his car. I forget how he wired it but they work fine. Try to PM him.
Here's a post where he mentions it http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47429

How much did you spend so far?

But if you read the thread he says they don't work properly. Anybody can tie the power and ground to something else and make them stay on but making the HID's and halos work correctly without causing damage to the bulbs and housing simply can not be done on a car that does not have the RS package.

Get an LT RS or live without them not worth the hassle.

The HIDs are not plug and play because on the T4A(halogen) cars the low beams are directly powered, by pulse width modulation, through the body control module. and the highs are fed voltage from the fuse block (fuses F55u and F56u) by way of the high beam relay which is integrated into the fuse block.

In T4F(HID) cars the low beams, and constant HID power is supplied to the ballasts through fuses F46U/F47U by way of the HID relay, which is a standard removable relay, this relay is controlled by a circuit from the BCM which isnt used on the T4A cars. The high beams are controlled via the exact same circuits as the halogen cars except the high beam voltage is sent to the HID shutters instead of the halogen high beam filament.

The halos are directly controlled by the BCM.

The biggest issue is whether or not the BCM sends out the HID relay control signal at the same time it sends out low beam PWM voltage or if its a software line of code, or perhaps worst case scenario a one-time selectable option/unique BCM. Same issues apply for the halo control.

Cars with fog lights already have most of the necessary wiring to control the HIDs and halos.(it would be much more daunting in an LS which most likely has a unique stripped down harness assembly) but there will still be some circuit fabrication required if the necessary HID relay control circuit isnt present in the body harness, there will also obviously be the necessity to fabricate connections from the forward lighting harness to the HID assemblies.

The first hurdle is to determine whether or not the BCM is unique to HID cars, or if they are all the same. If they are the same then a test to see if the T4A car BCM puts out the T4F required signals already or software adjustments are needed. This is a very simple test which could be done on any T4A car.

I have every intention of performing this upgrade to my car(and have obviously done the first steps in researching it), but my current situation has pushed my purchase back by many months. However I would be happy to make the checks to the BCM if there is anyone local to me (08330) that is considering doing this or is just looking to help the community come up with some answers.
