Does Seafoam through the brake booster work on D.I. cars?

I've been wondering this. Can I use Seafoam through the brake booster on my 17 Camaro 3.6L? I don't "think" I need to yet but if it ever came to past that I did, would it work?

Where did you hear to use seafoam with brakes?

The Brake Booster line is the vacuum line behind the intake that goes to the Brake Booster, it creates a vacuum which assists your braking, but the line can also be used to pour Seafoam into the motor as it is sucked into the intake manifold. Seafoam's instructions on the can actually intended it to be used this way.

It should still deliver sea foam to the top end of the engine, but you might not need it as much with DI engines. I bet there's still going to be some carbon build up from the crank case venting, but at the same time the build up might not be as severe since fuel is being added directly to the cylinders instead of to the air in front of the intake valves. Cleaning should still be accomplished, but maybe you wouldn't need to do it as frequently to get the same result?

GM had similar "top engine cleaner" which was aerosol based. Techs use to do it one of two ways, through the TB itself, or by removing the brake booster line. I assume that you can still do that, with out a code of some sort being thrown. Seems these cars now days are freakin finicky over the dumbest things.

I wouldn't run Sea Foam through my engine.... evidence of its effects are sketchy at best. Not worth the risk to sensors, etc. for me. Just change your oil regularly and use 93 octane.

But direct injection motors need there intake valves cleaned often as there is no gas ever hitting the back side if the intake valve which cleans the intake valve.

I did it to the llt in the last Gen Camaro with no issues and that was direct injection. and I guarantee you when it's time I'll use seafoam in my new Camaro as well.

I don't know what I don't know what guys are talking about above me but seafoam really is the cat's ass and I use it in all my vehicles.

And the brake booster line is the way to go

Just be sure to add it slowly. Don’t just stick the hose into the Seafoam container. It is technically possible to hydro lock your motor and really wreck some serious stuff. I’ve used Seafoam on other vehicles but not on my Camaro.

I like seafoam products and use them.
As for carbon on the valves,
I take the car out on beat run and blow all the carbon out of it. This is known as a German Tune up.
Also as noted, I would be careful about hydro-locking the motor. Don't let it inhale the hole can in one gulp. The Brake boaster port can really inhale quite a bit.

Would think you could add a "t" fitting in line . I think the hose is 3/8 inside dia.and add a rubber vacuum cap on the open end. Try to find a "T" fitting with a smaller port to inject the sea foam.

I've heard it called the Italian tune-up.

Seafoam also makes an aerosol can with a long tiny tube bent in a U. It is intended to slip in alongside the rubber boot on your intake. I’ve used this too but if you really need to remove heavy deposits stick with the brake booster.

Is carbon build up on the valves a product of not using a catch can and inhaling all those thick hydrocarbons into the the engine?
